When I have my external monitor plugged in, I cannot control the brightness on my MacBook's screen using the Apple Wireless Keyboard. However, I can control the brightness using the keys on the actual Mac keyboard. Also, when the display is NOT plugged in, I can use the brightness controls on the keyboard and the Mac. What's going on here? Is this normal? Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

I solved the issue. When the main display is on my external monitor, it controls the brightness. However, when the main display is my Macs display, the keyboard works fine with brightness.

Great tip, that worked for me too!! Having the primary display set to the macbook LCD allows the keyboard to control screen brightness.

Solved Problem

I have a 27" Apple Display external monitor and for some reason my apple wireless keyboard would not control the brightness.

Well after a little investigation, I realized that I had forgotten to plug in the USB cable from the monitor. Once I did - I regained brightness control.

Hopefully this helps someone else.
