this naming scheme is so dumb. just make a MacBook and a MacBook Pro and offer different levels of each...
Agree and have mentioned this several times. Drop the Air across the board.

MacBook & MacBook Pro
iPhone & iPhone Pro
iPad & iPad Pro

Way cleaner and intuitive from a consumer perspective. There is a regular version and a Pro version. Stupid easy.

Anyway, I haven’t wanted a Mac more than I do a 15” MBA in Midnight. I can’t imagine that config wouldn’t end up being the best selling Mac to date. While I’m preordering that 13 at moment one, I’d sell it for a 15” in a nanosecond.

That said, I do have my doubts Apple will give me exactly what I want. 🤪

It says 15", same design as the 13" and would be similar size as the MacBook Pro 16". Something is not adding up. It's impossible for those 3 statements to be right at the same time.

If they priced the 15" MBA starting at $1,499 or $1,599 or something, they would sell SO MANY of them.

Don't tease me like this. I would LOVE a 12" Macbook with an M-series chip. Was almost going to give up hope and get the new Air, but now...

This would be my format of choice. There's so little difference between the guts of the M2 Air and 13" MBP, I wonder if this would also be similarly spec'ed.

As much as i would love that, those number dont seem very realistic. Im guessing to get to that price we are looking at 6/8 gb ram, 128 ssd, and maybe no video camera since one can use their phone for the camera? I think the real price will be closer to the 2k side.

Best laptop I ever owned. Sadly became underpowered quite quickly and I bought a 13” MBP. With a M processor it will likely be my next laptop. They just need to include more than one usb c port.
My wife loves hers, still using it, but she’s looking to replace it this year so she’ll prob end up getting the new 13 air

My wife craves a larger screen but has no need for MacBook Pro's power. Heck, even her current M1 MBA is overkill for her needs. 15" MBA would be perfect.
Agreed. Especially now that there is 24GB RAM available in M2. I just picked up a 16" M1P MBP, and the M1P chip is massive overkill, but the screen size is the killer app for me.

I wondered if the superior audio and screen over the MBA would be tempting regardless, but now that I have it, I am underwhelmed. Yeah, the audio has impressive bass, but it sounds weird, especially with spoken voice, which has a dull, muffled, hollow sound, so bad that both my old 2015 rMBP, and my AirPods sound way better for TV or Movies. And the screen, well, it's nice, but not exactly a jaw dropping improvement over the already spectacular, original Retina of the 2015.

Great move by Apple—these these fill the two most obvious gaps in their laptop lineup, providing laptops for (a) those who want a large screen but don't need the MBP's processing power (and its attendant cost and weight), and (b) those who want a Mac ultrabook.

12" MacBook is one of the best computers they ever built imo. Can't wait to get that form factor back! 2 pounds. You could bring it with you anywhere without a second though. Nothing has come close to that since.
"Nothing has come close to that since" is quite the stretch there lol. I would say a 13" MacBook Air is so damn close it's almost identical lol.

15" should be the gold standard screen size. Anything smaller than that is too small in this era

12" is just ridiculous. My old 2017 MacBook screen size is so cramped

I disagree. The "Air" name is awesome! But they borked it with the latest update. Sure, the new one is thin and light, but it's no longer screams "aerodynamic", which the original design did perfectly.

But consumer perception was hurting the Air lineup, I think. I had friends that refused to get anything other than a MacBook Pro because they believed that a non-Pro was underpowered. We all know that's not true.

I think having MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in the lineup is confusing. The only way that they can solve that is by having a radically different design for the regular MacBooks like they did with the candy-coloured ones back in the day. I'm sad that the Air no longer stands out from the crowd with a unique design.

They should do a 12" MBP but have it as a 4:3 screen like the old Powerbooks / thinkpad X61 style That would be pretty decent with the retina screen. Even ipad is 4:3 screen.

They should also make the hdmi port able to take video in.

First new gen m2 machine with promotion display gets my money

Apple is working on a 15-inch MacBook Air that could be released as early as next spring, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The 15-inch MacBook Air would be close to the size of the larger-screened 16-inch MacBook Pro, and it would be Apple's largest MacBook Air to date. The current 2022 MacBook Air has the biggest display Apple has released so far at 13.6 inches.

The 15-inch MacBook Air would use the same design as the current 13.6-inch model, which eliminated the tapered frame that the MacBook Air used for years.

Alongside the 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple is working on a smaller 12-inch machine as well, though the naming of the tinier machine is unclear. Apple has not offered a 12-inch notebook since the 12-inch Retina MacBook that has since been discontinued.

The 15-inch MacBook Air could be released in early 2023 at a planned spring event, and the 12-inch MacBook could come at the end of 2023 or early 2024.

High-end MacBook Pro models equipped with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are in the works and could launch at the end of 2022, though Gurman warns that the release date could be pushed back until 2023.

The M2 Max chip will feature a 12-core CPU and up to a 38-core GPU, up from the 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU in the current M1 Max. Apple is also already developing M3 chips for machines that will come out further in the future.

Finally, Apple is developing new 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that are also expected to use the M-series chips, and these new iPads are planned for later in 2022.

Just what I'm looking for.

I wish they could somehow get at least the M2 Pro with 32GB RAM into a 15" MacBook Air. Doubt they will put a fan in it though, even though it's big enough. Kinda wonder if the 2023 M3 Pro will even need a fan if they can get down to a 3nm process node.

The only reason I need a pro chip is that I like to attach multiple monitors at the same time. One is not enough.
Also need a pro chip to unlock higher resolution on certain monitors. My 16" M1 Pro and 34K 5K2K monitor has been a sweet set-up. I returned my ASD because 27" is woefully insufficient and I can't afford two ASD's.

With apples pricing a 15” air would cost more than a 14” pro.
In the MBP range the 16” is only $200 more than the 14”. It would make sense that a 15” MBA would be at most $200 more than a 13” MBA. that puts a 15” about $100 less than the current 14” MBP. Trends suggest that the M2 MBP will go up in price.

Edit: I was comparing an MBA spec’s closer to the MBP. If you just go by base price, a 15” MBA would be $1399 ($200 more for the larger screen). Thanks for reminding me, Spicynujac

2016-2019 15” MacBook Pro is the template. Get an M2 chip in it, maybe a slight weight loss, update the keyboard, and you’re there. We would also really appreciate retaining the 4 USB-C ports (that last one is unrealistic, I know.)
