Now this is something that could be worth something. I know it could help me if it had a function for showing distances. They'd have to get it pretty comfortable to wear though...

Heck, even smart driving glasses that blocks the sun would be worthwhile. Don't know how they'd do it though, we're talking a lot of real time processing...

LOL, the rumors that keep on going without giving.

But this is an interesting approach to the market, ie from health standpoint instead of entertainment/general use. This was how Apple Watch found its success, from originally a fashion statement into a health assistive device. Interesting.

Yeah, that’s nice. While you’re at it, make Control Center on iPhones with Face ID accessible for left handed people too. We make up like 10% of the general population. You can do this by allowing users to set the gesture to the upper left corner of the screen instead of the upper right.

It doesn't seem like a difficult fix, but apparently this issue hasn't crossed their minds.
Agree one million percent. And I'm not left handed. While we're at it, how about a return and of the option, that WAS in one of the betas, to TURN OFF THE DAMN THREE DOTS?!?!?!!!! And can we go back the the cut/paste code in iOS 12, that actually worked?

They aren't looking to help anyone, they're looking to find a way into more pockets, and in this case, it's looking like insurance companies.
What in the world is the point of this?
Your comment says nothing about Apple—all it says is that you have extremely unrealistic expectations of businesses.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do this, BUT there is an option for "Back Tap" in Accessibility that sort of solves this problem.

Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap > Double Tap > Control Center

Sounds like a great idea. Will you write Craig Federighi at Apple with your suggestion?

If they did that you’d be complaining that the notification center is on the right side now and it’s so unfair that left-handed people can’t access their notifications as easily as right handed people.

That is a tiny segment of the market, so not a prime mover.
As a member of that tiny segment of the market, it’s very important to Apple.
Apple created and maintains some of the best accessibility features for visually impaired people.
Features like voiceover, voice control, AssistiveTouch and others literally change how the operating system actually works, so they absolutely were not free to develop.
Voice Over is particularly complex, completely changing the entire layout of the operating systems, and how everything works.
And yet, it’s been a feature in macOS since 2005, iOS since 2009, and the Apple TV, Apple Watch, and HomePod since they first launched.
So… I don’t think Apple would agree with your assessment that features for low vision and blind users are “not a prime mover.”
In fact, given that the feature set grows and grows every year for accessibility, I’d say that you’re way off the mark with that statement.

It’s a noble goal if indeed they maintain it. However glasses alone are not the only place in which Apple could assist the visually impaired. In fact their audio devices would be most aptly primed to immediately assist those individuals through the use of non-ocular stimulus and using LiDAR to help map rooms and navigate spaces.

A great deal can be done that isn’t in the form of “glasses” or specifically augmented reality or virtual reality goggles.

I just feel like this story is pandering a bit. But I wholeheartedly support any efforts to help individuals who may be affected by any number of disabilities.

I got a sneak peek at the prototype!!!

I don't care who eventually solves the problem of vision impairment or blindness, I just hope scientists and doctors are able to help people improve their vision so we can have a higher quality of life at any age. It would be great if apple is able to contribute to this endeavor.

This is pretty incredible. My wife suffers from macular degeneration and it’s a genetic inevitability.

I suffer from rheum, it sadly runs in the family. I'll be joining the waitlist for free Apple Glasses for sure.

I will Always have respect for these sort of efforts to make lives better, no matter what they result into.

This would be a godsend for someone like me, who suffers from glaucoma and has had two retina peels in my left eye. My vision has gotten bad enough that I had to retire, so something like this would be awesome. I’ve lost at least 20-25% of my vision, so this might be worth $3000. If it were just plain-old VR, nah, not interested.

I’m really looking forward to this tech shrinking to the size of eye glasses.

What’s the killer app? The killer app is seeing well!

Auto focus would be a revolution. I doubt that Apple is able to do that soon enough.
Progressive glasses are a pain because the focus areas are quite small.

Kudos to you for trying to offer a solution (I mean it) but it kind of made me chuckle a bit. It took me back to times when I would tell my colleagues how unbelievable annoying working in a Windows environment was to me at the time (I’m talking like late 90s - early 2000s IIRC) often because of a lot of little things where devs seemed to choose the least streamlined way of approaching the problem. They would sometimes respond with something along the lines of ”oh, you can make it work that way” followed by some option menu rabbit hole 😀

All kidding aside, Naiborg’s suggestion is so straightforward it’s hard to imagine Apple’s developers not thinking of it, unless they screen out left-handed candidates in hiring 😁
