FIX SIRI on Apple TV and especially Mac. That's where Siri fails really bad. iPhone is okay.

Siri is basically a search engine portal. Except it's not even that good since it uses Bing. It's really a sad sign of how Apple is letting their products atrophy. I honestly don't know what they're doing lately.

I've used this example many times, but if you want to see the stark difference between Siri's capabilities and Google Now's, do a simple test.

Ask Siri for information about flights between two major cities. Now ask Google the same. One will give you a link to Orbitz. One will give you a flight schedule of available flights with pricing.

Let's just hope johnny Ive doesn't get his hands on Siri - or improved functionality will be passed over in order to make her slimmer.

Why does it suck? I think it works slightly less often than autocorrect which is pretty decent. My issue is that it's rude to use most of the time which is why most people never get past the training phase.
Anecdotal of course, but there are two iPhones in my house. Whenever my wife or daughter uses Siri, the answer rate seems to hover around 60%. There's a lot of suggestions to use the web or it just goes into stasis. Honestly, the Google app works better and quicker on the iPhone than Siri.

Still don't know if I will use it. I do use the VOICE to TEXT feature on the iPhone, but not SIRI, most of the time, she never gets what I am saying, so I don't bother....

If you found Siri to be useless, try using her in any non-English language.
German Siri does basically nothing but giving "funny" replies.

Why is this even news? I mean, Apple should ALWAYS be working to make Siri better, and those improvements shouldn't be tied to one particular phone.
This. That's like saying that we will be seeing improvements to Maps or that the next A-series processor will be faster than the current one. It's pretty much a given and I don't see how it is newsworthy unless the informant also has details on what new capabilities we will be seeing with Siri.

Siri, set an alarm. Siri, set a timer. Play this playlist. And that's around 90% of using siri for me.

Exactly. This is why any improvements to Siri are a waste of time in that department. Same with Maps which uses outdated sources.

I hope Apple can eventually improve Siri, as voice assistant I find it to be extremely frustrating to use. For example I now have two Amazon Echo in my home, these are excellent voice assistants to use with home automation, they hear me 99.9% of the time when I use the trigger word compared to my experience with Siri which is practically 0% of the time, meaning for me I just give up trying to use Siri.

I hope Apple will eventually resolve this problem as I live in the Apple eco system and enjoy their products, but home automation is becoming a large part of our lives now as well as voice control in our vehicles. So the voice assistant needs to be 100% reliable, not have to think will it work or not.

See I've found some features useful so long as you're alone. I just find it would be rude most of the times I want to use it. If it's inappropriate to talk on the phone than it's going to be inappropriate to use a voice assistant.
I agree, I don't use it in a quiet place.
This kind of reminds be of when Nextel was popular about 15 years ago. I thought it was really rude when people would use it in public. No headset, and they couldn't just "talk" into the phone when doing the walkie-talkie feature, they had to yell.
My kids use it more then I do, they don't think twice about saying "Siri facetime <insert name>" in public or in any situation I guess it might be a generational thing where I'm also a little sensitive about that.
My kids don't seem to mind this either, but I think as they get older their social mores will changes.

"Enhanced"? Please stop with the meaningless marketing adjectives and adverbs and just make the products work spectacularly and be intuitive to use again. The more descriptors given to a product feature usually means it's that much more useless.

I use Siri, esp w/ HomeKit devices. It works maybe 90% of the time but I've learned to speak Siri and know her limitations. I'm also patient. I gave my mom a Hue starter kit. She doesn't know Siri's language and Siri mostly doesn't understand her either. The slider connected to her lamp is literally faster and easier. The point of Siri and HomeKit is suppose to make controlling these kind of things easier. The geofencing function never works for her.

Frustrating for me is that Siri can't be use to control apps like Remote. I mean it works with Music. How hard is it to hook it to Remote?

Would be interesting to see what happened if the Google app for iOS (and Android) suddenly gets the power of Google Assistant, rather than its just being relegated to the Google Pixel and Google Allo.

Siri wouldn't be so bad if:

1. Siri understood simple directions.

2. Siri did not refer me to the internet for simple information.

3. Siri could do the above without having me to look at my phone.

I forgot one:

4. Not allow Siri to activate it self by thinking I said "Hey Siri" while vibrate is on. This happened in a meeting last week, and it was pretty embarrassing.

I love how it's easy nor for example to order a cab with siri. That's just stunningly simple.
But I want more functionality like that with more apps (I know they already announced it, and am excitedly waiting for it).
And more important so - I need that functionality on the apple watch. It's so strange that siri on the watch is so much more stupid than on the phone, while the opposite should be the case.

I wanna do simple things like: Hey Siri, add "cucumbers" to my shopping list in "buy me a pie". Or "hey Siri, add "blabla random task" to my to do list in "Things".
Just stuff like that, to do list stuff. It can't be THAT hard to implement. Same with Public transport: "Ask Citymapper when the next subway leaves."

And then of course the bothersome contextual conversations. Siri needs to be able to follow up on questions better after a second and third question.

Maybe it'll be usable this time.

Absolutely. I cant get Siri to do anything reliably other then read a text message or tell me what time it is. For example, creation of a calendar appointment since I cant ever remember the way Siri wants to hear the command I always end up with an appointment named "appointment" for some random time. It's just horrible. Thanks for the reminder, time to turn it off again...

A Siri 2.0 with this "new generation" of iPhone would be a welcome. Release a standalone Siri/HomeKit speaker also with the Siri 2.0.

Just do it soon. Alexa and Google Home are out in the wild. Stop dragging your feet and get out there.

lol. NO!
I am a strong believer in apple but when it comes to Siri, I don't even dream it will ever understand me anything apart from "hey siri, set an alarm after xxx mins." :(
I asked her to set an alarm for an hour the other day and she set it, and then set another one, and then another one. I must have had 10 alarms by the time I stopped her. I tried it later and it did the same thing. I guess at least she is enthusiastic!!!
