CNet reports that Apple is actively trying to lock down worldwide cloud-music rights for a possible October 4th launch.
Sources familiar with the discussions between Apple, record companies, and music publishers, say Apple is seeking international music licenses for its iCloud service. The licenses would be similar to those the company has already obtained for U.S. operations, the sources said.
CNet believes if the negotiations wrap up in time, they could be part of Apple's October 4th media event where the company is expected to launch the next generation iPhone. Deals are reportedly close but "nothing is signed".

Apple's iCloud service offers a number of different backup and syncing services over the air. In particular, they allow users to re-download previously purchased music. And with the addition of iTunes Match, allow users to match and store all their music in the cloud. Amongst the countries that could see iCloud agreements are Germany, France and the UK.

Previous estimates had pegged UK support to be delayed until 2012.

I just wonder about pricing; the local Apple site used to say that iTunes Match will cost US$24.99/year, and now it doesn't mention pricing at all. I suspect that Apple's going to charge more than the previously-announced price :(

Edit: Please see my update in post #18.

As much as i would like to, I Just don't believe it.

We still don't have TV shows, or a ibookstore here. If something is too good to be true, it generally is.

Would be nice to get it in Kiwi land,
Still waiting for tv shows, so don't really see it happening this year.

IBookstore is actually since a couple of days up for most of Europe, there's just not much if any content in them. But contet providers now have an option to include some European countries.

As for iTunes match coming to EU on Wednesday, I doubt it, but maybe this year.

Awesomeness on track for oct 4th?

No they won't. I've already been charged because of the beta. I dont think Apple would increase it. That would make some devs angry.

I wonder if Apple has used the October 4 deadline as a threat/incentive when negotiating with record companies and music publishers who might think they will be left out of an attention-getting new service and all its publicity if they don't sign promptly.

Im guessing TV shows might be more difficult than anything because it would make it hard for american networks selling their shows to european networks if we could just stream from apple? I would love to have it though. Would probably even force local networks into creating more original content, which would also be good.

You're in the US though, right?

That's the US site too. There's no longer a price listed on the local site.

Edit: Hmm, there's a price at the bottom of the page, but not up in the text where it used to be. There's also a footnote stating "Pricing based on services provided in the US" but I'm not sure whether it's always said that or not.

Are you talking about iTunes Match Nermal ? If you are it's only available in the U.S. right now so there wouldn't be a price in a different country.

I noticed it said coming this spring. When is spring in NZ ?

Unfortunately archive.org doesn't have a copy of it, but the NZ page used to say that Match is coming later in the year and will cost US$24.99/year. It no longer says that.

This is apart from the table at the bottom, which has the "US pricing" footnote that may or may not have been there before (and as mentioned, I can't find an archived copy to check).

My concern was that when it launches here, Apple may charge something like NZ$45/year for it, which is a fair amount more than the US price. On the other hand, when I posted my first post, I was thinking of it being per month so it's not really as big an issue as I was thinking.

It's spring now, until the end of November.

Canada is usually several months late. In the case of Microsoft's Zune, 3 or 4 years.

From what I've been reading I'm gonna guess you guys will get it probably at the same time we get it and your price would be in the range of 34.99 NZD

The NZ stores tend to be a bit behind in terms of apple updating them, our iBooks only has free books on offer.
And like I said before no tv shows.

But with iTunes match, it could very well be different, as it's not a store as such.

Apple has be coming under fire the last week for it's pricing here in NZ, the meda are saying that apple are ripping NZ users off. But they don't have their facts right in the matter.

I think iTunes match could very well be under the $45 mark.
But let's wait and see.

I know if given the option I would be joining, if they have all the bugs and issues sorted with it XD

This is what I thought/hoped, iTunes would become back when it was introduced. It's taken awhile but it looks as though a true global music marketplace is nearing reality.

first we get movies in europe, and now we get this? love it!

They need to kill regional license deals with fire! We finally have the iTunes movie store here now (Netherlands), and the purchase of an HD movie in iTunes (720p remember) is $5 more expensive than buying the bluray (1080p) in the store. Why would I buy a digital file if I can have the same (or even better) for less money and not have the fuss of making backups etc. to protect my digital purchase?

I think these media producers need a little bit of education about elasticity.

Uhhh.... NO.

Check the L I N K .

Close to the bottom, in the grid that says "There’s iCloud. And then there’s everything else." -- big as daylight -- $24.99.
