This sounds gimmicky as ****. Like something a clueless Windows OEM would do.
For the love of God, Surface Books unlock via Intel Realsense face recognition, and it works well. Fast and accurate.

Siri, Touch ID unlock, and hopefully a redesigned iTunes? 10.12 is getting more interesting by the day. Only one more month to go :D

These are nice minor improvements, things we should expect, nice to have, but nothing revolutionary. Apple will have to do a lot more if it doesn't want to fall further behind Google.

Jeez, why does it take so long Apple? I have been asking for such a feature since the first introduction of touch ID around 3 years ago. I have even posted a thread on macrumors, if it would be possible to use such a concept with a password manager like 1password to basically manage all your passwords with touch-id.
Something like this would really change the way we think about passwords...

Just like MacID, I have been using this application since the day it became available, it is a fine application. It is fantastic if you have to enter your password in front of "users". It eliminates the need to key your password in and run the chance of a user memorizing your Administrative password.

I currently use MacID and it works perfectly. I set it to unlock my macbook whenever I enter the room. However the only inconvenience is that it requires to keep the iOS app open which is annoying sometimes.
Has not worked for me since the day I purchased it. Biggest waste of $2 ever. And the dev doesn't offer a solution or a refund.

Touch ID doesn't even have to be on one of the keys. Just build the sensor right into the track pad. Second, partner with Visa Checkout & MasterCard Paypass so users can use Apple Pay right from a Mac in places where those payment services are accepted, and build on from there.

I can't believe an average guy like me knows more than Tim Cook and his "innovators" at Apple.

Right, you know SO much more and yet the world just had failed to discover your greatness.

I think you're missing the point. Many people with a MacBook that's less than two years old won't want to upgrade because of a Touch ID sensor. I'm sure the new MacBooks will have it, but it'll be great to have an option for everyone else.

So upgrade the laptop when the old one needs to go. You're right, people won't upgrade their laptop at that price point solely because of the fingerprint sensor; however, that shouldn't stop Apple from improving on the current laptops.

Nice. I'd prefer to use Touch ID on my iPhone to unlock my Mac than have an embedded fingerprint sensor built-in the Mac.

R.I.P MacID and Knock if true.

Wow, count me out. Hope its an option I can thoroughly disable. The difference here is between your fingerprint which a court can compel you submit, or a password that they can't. Plus who knows the orchestration of this option, i.e. can it be enabled after its locked with a password/key already? Those are details we don't have yet. It may be inconvenient, but at least I know its locked.

Do you really think the reason we haven't seen the expansion of Apple Pay and Touch ID to the Mac is because someone lacked the idea?
