That's great. Just keep it as a separate subscription offering and don't raise the Apple TV Plus price.
It is a month long tournament every 4 years that will be treated as a pre-season for the European clubs. I highly doubt they will be asking for a subscription for it on top of Apple TV+, and it won’t result in the Apple TV+ price going up.

Yawn. More Baseball, please. My interest in "Football" peaked and ended with Ted Lasso.
Please. Baseball is the most boring sport in the universe. Never wondered why this sport hasn't even spread around the world, but football is by far the No. 1 sport in the world?
But of course it's a waste of money to invest in this Fifa tournament as it's a inflated version of a smaller tournament that's been around for a long time?
Nobody in Europe, the most important market, will be interested in matches between African or US clubs.
Only when the big fish - i.e. the big European clubs - get involved will it become interesting, by which time the small ones will have long since gone home!

It's a win win for Apple, because they get publicity there. Anyway, it's good to have a good platform to watch the World Cup. In Argentina (where I'm from), local broadcasts go down, cut off or at best are a few minutes late.

I can tell you, as a football fan, that this will float like a lead balloon.

There is already too much football, to the point that saturation and commercialism have ruined the sport. Nobody asked for another tournament!

This is a very good move! I hope that Apple takes the rights. Will be a nice tournament.

I hope that Boca Juniors from Argentina win the World Club Cup!

Bad graphic. Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are not going to participate in the next World Cup.

Apple should buy UEFA Champions League rights. UCL is infinitely more interesting, and US watchers would see good players and good "soccer".

Last year I had a free subscription of MLS, do you know how many games I watched? Exactly. :p

It’s a newly reformatted competition and one which Apple could land world wide rights to which compares favourably with the minefield that is the UEFA champions league, or World Cup, or European Championships.

A billion dollars is merely the price of 4-5 big movie titles for Apple and it’s a month of sporting eyeballs on the action.

as long as it’s not going to raise people‘s subscriptions I don’t see the issue.

If you pay over two billion for a minor soccer league and sell it as a separate subscription it’s not happening to lure people into another service. This is the service.

Save me from the unwanted expense of funding broadcasters/streamers overpaying/bidding for sports rights, loading up the rest of us with the increased costs whether we want to watch or not - absolutely not in my case. cf Sky, Amazon, BT/TNT etc all trying to outbid each other for UK & European soccer rights. The quantities of money involved defy belief and the failure to increase subscribers to cover it all means the existing subscriber base gets to pay the increased costs.

Let those who want to watch this stuff assume the full burden of the broadcaster/streamer's largesse.
Have you thought it might be the reverse? The streaming rights are paid for because they tend to bring huge subscribers numbers and ad dollars which support the platform.

The images used for story just shows how American Mac Rumours is. 2 aged players, wearing there national shirts to promote Apple buying the rights for a re vamped competition for club teams that both player prob won’t ever be in.

This isn’t the competition to get huge subscriber numbers.

I’m from England and we obviously love our football but I don’t know many people that have ever watched this competition.

Apple TV+ has, in my opinion, some of the consistently best content of all the streamers but people don't discover them because Apple hasn't yet become known as a big name in television. It's getting there slowly with Ted Lasso, Severance and For All Mankind picking up awareness in pop-culture.

Having exclusive rights to an event like this will be a billion dollars well spent. They'll have millions of people worldwide subscribing to Apple TV and discovering all the great shows and films. It could be a turning point.

Apple is working to secure an exclusive TV deal with soccer governing organization FIFA, reports The New York Times. FIFA will launch a revamped version of Club World Cup in 2025, and Apple wants the TV rights. Club World Cup 2025 will feature 32 teams from each of the six confederations.

An agreement between Apple and FIFA could be announced as soon as this month, and the first tournament will take place in the United States next summer. Apple could be paying around $1 billion, and The New York Times says it is not yet clear if there will be any free-to-air rights. If not, the entire tournament could be available only to Apple TV+ subscribers.

Apple has already shelled out $2.5 billion to secure global broadcasting rights to Major League Soccer. MLS and League Cup games are streamed on Apple TV+, with access priced at $14.99 per month or $99 per season for non-subscribers and $12.99 per month or $79 per season for those who subscribe to Apple TV+.

Apple sees live sports as a way to lure new customers to the Apple TV+ streaming service. In addition to the MLS deal, it has also secured a deal with Major League Baseball. Apple negotiated for NFL Sunday Ticket access, and while that didn't work out, a report from The Athletic suggests that Apple is still in the running to secure some streaming access to NBA games.

Earlier this year, Apple introduced a dedicated Apple Sports app that allows users to get real-time scores and stats for their favorite teams. The app is able to sync with the My Sports experience in the Apple TV app.

I do not see how it could be of the same quality as the UEFA Champions League. The world’s best players continue to be acquired by European clubs, most of them before they turn 20. Rebranding and reconfiguring will not change the fact that in the Club World Cup tournament, the UCL teams with superior talents will continue to compete against teams with lesser talents. This is much less the case with the National team World Cup. FIFA is not interested in how much sports sense a competition makes, rather how much more additional income it can generate. The pro players deserve to have every other summer off. Move the FIFA Club World Cup to the PlayStation and the Xbox.

It’s being massively reconfigured and virtually rebranded though.
The amount of elite teams taking part, and the change in the calendar will make it much more popular than before.
It’s not Champions League, or Premier League levels popular, but much more than before.
It is going to be a glorified preseason exhibition tournament and nothing more.

I must admit it is an interesting concept but it is simply an attempt at extracting more money out of football.
FIFA is not doing this to promote the sport for the good of the sport.

It will depend on where you live geographically though. Europeans will not care for it but for non-Europeans it might mean something.

Club world cup is and always has been a useless worthless competition.

The only clubs worth playing are in European champions league.. All other clubs around the world won't be able to compete and will get thrashed easily.

This new World Club Cup is a bold move by FIFA. I think it is a very interesting concept that deserves a chance. You are showing the typical European arrogance will fall as the one shown by Mbappé before the World Cup.

South American teams will recover the pride and the shine that used to have. Maybe 2025 won't be the case, but 2029 Will give a South American champion again.
