Are we FINALLY getting back to flip phones?

Say what you will... getting quadruple to 7x the battery life already has my giddy AND nostalgic!

I highly doubt this will happen. So many issues with trying to fold a screen.

- You can’t do a sharp fold as there’s a minimum bend radius. Which means devices are going to be much thicker.
- There’s no way you can hide the crease where it gets folded. Having a noticeable “line” in your display is going to be very distracting.
- People like devices and screens that feel solid. The biggest upgrade to the iPad was when they laminated the screen which improved the feel when typing. I doubt you can make a device that folds and maintains rigidity. It’s going to feel sloppy when touching the screen.

I don’t see this going anywhere. Not with today’s technology.

So you can't fold it half like a map... that's a shame. One main attraction with folding screens for me is to have the best of both worlds... a tablet, laptop, whatever device that takes as much space as a 9" laptop when you carry it, but when you use it, you get a 18" screen!

Hopefully people will stop complaining about the “Bendgate”.

But if it doesn't fold... "Nonbendgate"!

Have you tested a foldable device to know that it's not useful?

Field Notes notebooks. People pay US$10 just to get 48 pages of paper in a form that prevents folding. Very useful, absence of folds. Cheers!

In the future when the components can be much smaller. Folding screen maybe good.

Would be awesome for Apple Watch to have a display that curves along the edges meeting directly with the aluminum bezel, comprising the entire face.

See the Lenovo video in post #104 above. Look around 1:00 into it. That particular folding phone does so in small rigid sections.

Their rigid-flex prototype design is similar to this 2005 Nokia concept, although with current technology Lenovo had to implement bigger sections than this:



The battery can be divided into sections for a wrist wrap type phone, like the ones talked about above.

Or it can simply be a normal battery (or two!) if the style is a folding tablet type made up of two rigid hinged sections with a flexible large screen, like this Samsung concept:
