You basically receive 1 year of 'applecare' when you buy a mac. So, if I were to buy their extended applecare thing, ($279 at, does that mean I have 1+3 = 4 years total, or do the years overlap and I only get 3 years applecare?

I don't follow apple often, but I occasionally read the tech news in the paper. I am aware that they update their hardware annually, or do a "refresh". I'm wondering when they exactly do that each year (fall/winter/august/etc), and if it has already happened this year? I want to get a macbook air sometime between now and before august, but I don't know if I should wait or if the refresh has already happened.

#1. I believe you end up with three years total.

#2. Many people expect an Air refresh around June to add new processors and Thunderbolt. But no one knows for sure. If you need it now, buy it. If you can wait, wait. A refresh is probably coming within the nex three to four months.

I always buy AppleCare with my new Macs. It's a total of 3 yrs coverage. Expensive? Yes, worth it? Absolutely, I've used it a few times.

I'm not one to buy warranties, this is the one exception because the coverage is very complete and I've never been let down. As picky as I am, I have nothing but good things to say about AppleCare service.

An important note is the original warranty only gives you 90 days of telephone tech support, then AppleCare phone support begins and continues till the end of the 3 years. This is a great benefit.

Buy the computer now they were refreshed a few months ago. I have one, its a good model with no reports of significant bugs.

    Why wait for the unknown?

don't buy AppleCare until the 11th month of ownership.
by then you'll know whether you're going to keep it for sure and if so, then genuine AppleCare is available on eBay for a lot less than Apple charge.

Rule Of thumb is to always get AppleCare of laptops. As for refreshes apple usually refresh everything once a year...
