It's a free market, and you're not forced to buy it.

So silly how many people don't understand this. Apple isn't even under any requirement to offer any kind of insurance plan.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. There are numerous other companies that sell electronics insurance. Buy that garbage protection plan from Best Buy and see how much of a nightmare you go through if you ever need to use it.

“We want to serve everyone. We understand that there is a wide range of what customers are looking for and a wide range of prices that people will pay.” Except for AppleCare+ for Series 4. We just want you to pay the highest price possible over last year’s price.

I’m guessing the clown nose red did not fair too well or Apple would not have changed the button. The button actually looks better without the clown nose.

Why yes, it is clear. Greed. It's a profit play, plain and simple. All extended warranties are profit plays based on the assumption that more people will pay into the pool than they take out. Apple has conditioned a certain portion of their customers to "just accept it" when it comes to pricing.

E-Suite: We make a killing on applecare for the apple watch at $49.
Accounting wonk: We just intro'd new hardware. We can make an even greater killing at $79.
E-Suite (taps finger on chin): Run it. They'll pay.
<snaps fingers>
E-Suite: Hey while we're at it, jack up the price on the battery replacements. With the new products coming out, they won't even notice. Even if they do, they're still going to pay it anyway.

It’s literally the price you pay for more advanced mechanics and technology inside the watch. Simply don’t buy it if you don’t want it.

I have to image $40/year for 2 years is worth protecting a $500 investment. However I can’t speak for everyone.

He did not say anyone is forcing him either. Just his observation. Which is true. And great for Apple if it works. Since that is the whole point of running a business. More profit.

He said Apple are thieves. You can say they’re greedy, but calling them thieves is pushing it.
