Nobody likes a price increase but as a percentage of the cost of the device it’s protecting, it’s comparable or cheaper than the Applecare+ for the iPad and all models of iPhones. Only the iPad Pro is a noticeably better value.

And as mentioned repeatedly, it’s an optional expense.

I bought AppleCare with my S0 as it was an entirely new product. I will probably buy it again when I get the S4 for the same reason. I believe the cost is reasonable....now let's discuss AppleCare for a MacBook Pro......or life insurance (/s)

No. In business world, it is a business strategy to improve profitability. As a lawyer, you should know about business law and not judge quickly before reviewing all facts, a real financial and non financial facts, not “fake” facts.
The two concepts aren’t mutually exclusive. You can peruse a strategy that is both greedy and good for business.

So silly how many people don't understand this. Apple isn't even under any requirement to offer any kind of insurance plan.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. There are numerous other companies that sell electronics insurance. Buy that garbage protection plan from Best Buy and see how much of a nightmare you go through if you ever need to use it.

I highly doubt people don't understand this very simple concept. It's more that for most of the world an Apple Watch/Apple products in general are an expensive luxury that is out of reach financially. For those who could previously just about justify or work towards the purchase, things like this just move it more out of reach and it's this which causes discontent.

I think when I get the 4, and I aim to, I'll just rely on the extra year of insurance that comes with my premium credit card. I'm sure there are hoops to jump through, but I'll take a crack to avoid the extra costs.

It's a free market, and you're not forced to buy it.

And I absolutely won't. It's a free world and I'm free to call Apple greedy when they behave like this. Richest company in the world putting their prices up across the board? Don't even include a headphone dongle any more? Cheap ass behaviour fleecing people for more cash. Sure, they're a profit making listed company so they're always beholden to shareholders but it's a damn shame they can't put their loyal customers first for a change. Thieves.

They’re not thieves if you’re not buying it. Greedy? Maybe. But it’s clearly in high demand with how high the prices are. If a drastic amount of people stop buying it, they’ll lower the price. That’s the free market working itself out.

I've had a Series 0 and a Series 2 that both had AppleCare and I used it twice on both models. Battery issues and/or the device just wouldn't turn on anymore. So I see the value in it, even if I'm not happy with the increased cost.

I have AppleCare for my Series 3 and have never needed to use it. This time I’m leaning against getting it, especially sine I’m getting the SS with sapphire which is difficult to damage in normal use. My SS Series 3 looks brand new and I wear it all the time unless it’s charging.

This: "extends warranty coverage up to two years from the date of purchase"
Should read: "provides coverage for two years from the date of purchase"

Do you really need Apple care for a watch? I’m a first time buyer and it feels like a waste of money.

Its not only 99 for 2 years, its also 69 per repair (up to 2). So if you really have damaged your watch, that repair must exceed at least 168 (all prices in Euro) to make it worth.

Just bought a Series 4 and this is my take (Sport, not SS). I had Apple Care on my Series 3 - I had never had an Apple Watch before and figured it might be very fragile. In a year, neither my wife nor I ever needed it, so I'll pass this time.

$49 was also almost stupid-cheap, close to a no-brainer. Nearly doubling the cost is sort of a speed bump.

So true. I’m going to get the watch 4 but I won’t be getting the Apple care. I feel it depends on how careful of a person you are with your stuff. Ive got a 6s with not a scratch on it in 3 yrs and I’ve always used a half case open on the front top and bottom with no screen protector and I’ve never dropped it. I’m just careful with my stuff.

I'm a mix there. I'm VERY careful with my stuff. My launch-week jet black iPhone 7 could pass for NIB if you didn't get out a strong magnifying glass.

OTOH, I cut corners close. I bump into things. I wear expensive mechanical wrist watches (have done so for almost 30 years) and some of them have taken bad hits. So, I was concerned about the AW. Turns out it was not an issue.

While I'm typing, my wife is not all that careful with her stuff, and her AW also looked great after a year of daily wear. I looked at it closely when we were trading them in and her watch had only one small small scratch on the case, and the display was still fine.

I think the AW is a lot more durable than a lot of people think. I wouldn't wear one if I worked in the construction trades, or as an automobile mechanic, for example. But I probably wouldn't wear anything other than a G-Shock in those cases.

Greed shmeed...Last I checked Apple was a For Profit organization. You make profit by creating effective business strategy that enables you not to LOSE money. AKA, profit.

Only a welfare liberal waiting for handouts would look at a business strategy for a for profit company as greed. The other beautiful thing is you live in a free market system, not communist Russia in the 80s, so you don't have to buy it! Yay!

I read on another forum that the Hermès watch AppleCare + ($99) gets you three years of coverage. Was that correct or was it a typo?
