I agree with goMac that it would have to be extremely bad luck and highly improbable (though not impossible) to have this happen three times. That's not to say I don't believe you or anything - a member here went through 3 faulty macbooks a few years ago, so you never know!

Why don't you ask for some tech help here first? There could be something slightly off about your settings that is causing this to happen. Can you connect to your network wirelessly? Do you experience the same problem with a wireless connection?

I can't even believe it either. My dad connects his unibody MacBook downstairs via ethernet most of the time and he hasn't had any problems since he got it back in December.

I posted a thread a while back when I first started having my ethernet problems but no one was really able to help. All works 100% normally while on wifi, just the wired connection that is having the problems.

And if you plug your computer into the same port as your dad, you have the same problem?

Also, this might seem kind of silly and obvious, but have you tried restarting your computer with the ethernet plugged in and the airport off? This may be the way you normally do it anyway. I was asking because it could be a glitch in readdressing the IP... You should be able to switch seamlessly, but I have experienced problems related to switching between wireless and ethernet before. Can't remember how I solved them though:eek:.

Yeah I still have the problem, no matter which port its connected to.

The wireless router is in our basement (Stupid, stupid idea. That's just where the cable modem comes in, so our router was placed there too and it struggles to cover all 9000 square feet in the house. Rather than getting a wireless repeater for up here, I just decided to use the wired connection.) so I don't get any wireless signal all the way upstairs. I'll try that though.

Damn...my apologies for having so many issues.

Does your machine have the same problem if it's plugged into a different router?

Some cheaper routers can have compatibility issues.

Yep. The router was $120 new, so it's not cheap.

Maybe this is the perfect excuse to buy a Time Capsule...
