Does anyone know if you can add the Monthly AppleCare+ to a new iPad after purchase? I was told by someone that the monthly option in particular had to be done at time of purchase but I haven't been able to verify that.

You have up to 60 days from the purchase date to buy it for either price. I would warn though (unless they changed it since I got my iPad Pro) that if you’re getting an Apple Pencil, buy them together and the AppleCare+ at the time of purchase. Otherwise, the pencil wont be covered with the iPad.

Thanks. I hadn't heard about that.

Wait, that's the case?

That is good to know. I actually ordered the new iPad and pencil earlier this week but have had some hesitation about the purchase. I cancelled the iPad but I couldn’t cancel the pencil Order as it already shipped. Was worried about coverage if I end up getting the iPad after all as the pencil was now purchased “separately.“. Sounds like it won’t be an issue though.

I am coming from the iPad Pro 10.5 so I am due for an upgrade. I am just starting to wonder if I should just get the 2018 model. The thing is, at least so far, the sale prices seem Negligible so I might as well get the latest model.

My question is if you decided to go with the monthly plan on day 59 would you then only pay for months going forward? In other words you don’t have to pay for the 60 days you’ve “used” since purchase. If so then 2 x 22 months = $132 where 24 months = $129 with the two year purchase upfront. The monthly plan allows you to stop paying at any time for whatever reason.

This is the first time I’m really considering it for the iPad just because of the added coverage for the magic keyboard. I don’t really worry about my phone but for some reason I can totally imagine my daughter or someone spilling liquid on this keyboard in the next two years.

Edit: I guess you can cancell your AppleCare+ 2 year membership at anytime and get a pro-rated refund, so pretty much the same I guess, unless you wanted to go beyond 2 years which you can only do with the monthly.

Does anyone know if we can move to a monthly plan after the initial 2 year purchase is up? Or would you have had to done a monthly plan in the beginning to extend it after 2 years?

Supposedly yes, but the terms state there's no guarantee you'll be allowed to switch. I expect Apple will be happy to take the continuous revenue though so short of eliminating support for your old device (Beverly-Song only requires parts availability/repair for 7 years), I don't see why they'd want to prevent you from switching at end of the initial 2-yr term.
