I just received this via email.

Your AppleCare+ plan now protects your covered device from unlimited incidents of accidental damage from handling (instead of two incidents every 12 months) while the plan is active and in effect. Each incident is subject to the applicable service fees.
This additional protection comes at no extra charge to you, and you don’t have to do anything.
Please see the AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions.
Verify your coverage anytime online at Check Coverage.

Yup, just got the same thing. I've never accidentally damaged a desktop or laptop, though I can see it happening. It seems this would be of more relevance to iPhones, but not sure if it applies to those.

Just read that too. Now if they would add theft protection to Macs AppleCare would be even better. I am really happy with this!

I guess you don't have pets or kids and have never accidentally knocked or dropped your laptop? I guess I am a klutz because I have done so a few times on laptops over the years so I am very happy with this. I use my laptop everywhere so dropping it is a real fear for me and now I can rest just a little easier that at least if I do ever have a catastrophic drop I won't be out my Mac.

Sure I have. I once took a header down some concrete stairs while carrying a laptop. But the padded shoulder bag protected it, so it came out unscathed. And I do spill drinks on my desk, which is why I always kept my laptop elevated on a raindesign mStand (highly recommended: https://www.raindesigninc.com/mstand.html), pairing it with an external keyboard and mouse, to protect it at home.

Of course, everyone's experience will be different. But, as a general observation, I think it was reasonable to opine that the percent of people who total their laptop and/or desktop more than twice a year, and who would thus benefit from this change for those devices, is pretty small compared to those who might do so for an iPhone.

Specifically, when you write: "...dropping [my laptop] is a real fear for me and now I can rest just a little easier that at least if I do ever have a catastrophic drop I won't be out my Mac...", with the old policy that fear would only apply if you've already totaled it twice within 12 months. How many times have you been in that situation?

I dropped my windows laptop on a metal surface from about 18” to two feet a couple days ago and it scratched the device. It wasn’t catastrophic but still these things happen when you least expect it.

Admittedly I have not had a catastrophic accident in the last 12 months. So you are probably right but better safe than sorry. Lol
