I just purchased AppleCare+ for my iPhone X and I noticed under "My devices" that I have 29 days to purchase Applecare+ for my MacBook Pro 2016. Is it worth buying?

You are going to get varied responses, but IMHO, yes - it means 3 years of coverage beyond just the keyboard, also for accidental damage (which can happen with any mobile system) (there is a deductible), plus it covers battery replacement if you can drive your capacity down to 80% within 3 years (quite doable if you are doing a cycle or more a day.)

Thus far (and excluding all active systems I have with AC), my investments in AC and AC+ have probably saved me more than it has costed.

So it is my humble opinion that, purchasing AppleCare and using the device without over-babying it can be a good way to go.

I'd go for it. Heck, I normally don't buy extended warranties or AppleCare for my devices. But, with my 13 inch TB 2017 MacBook Pro, I figured I'd get it since I want to keep this laptop for as long as possible...plus I can be a Klutz.

But there's another reason I got it...peace of mind. Peace of mind knowing that if something happens to my MacBook after a year, I can simply take to my nearest apple store and get service.

Not really if you have a decent credit card.

Citi offers 24 months of extended warranty on purchases made on their credit cards over the manufacturer's warranty.

Most Visa/Mastercards and all Discover/Amex have extended warranties too for 12 months.

Unless you are one of those who always damages their **** accidentaly, I dont see a point.

I dont even see the point of buying AppleCare+ for iPhones (ofcourse unless you go naked and break the screen or whatever). A decent case and an edge to edge screen protector usually is enough.

For me I never keep my electronics especially MacBooks for more than 2 years so I never get AppleCare. I just got a new Citi card that will give me warranty for total of 3 years so now I plan on keeping the MacBooks I buy for three years, why spend >250 on AppleCare+ when I can get warranty for same duration for free?

Thank you so much for this info! I did buy my MacBook with Discover so it’s good to know that I have an extended warranty through them. I don’t worry much about breaking it because I baby my MacBook and I keep it next to my bed.

You just saved me $269! Thank you sir.

Discover has a 12 month extended warranty and the process is very easy. You basically get a check within a couple of weeks! Get a citicard(the double cash)if you can, it will give you 24 months of extended warranty!

Make sure you make a folder (online and offline) with the receipt and the discover transaction so you have it on your hand when you need it.

They usually ask for receipt, transaction details (basically statement or single transaction deets), work authorization, receipt for repair and transaction details for the repair.

You can also cancel the AppleCare+ on iPhone(unless you want accidental damage protection) if you bought it using Discover and paid full price on it coz you are covered by them for a total of 2 years now!
