It doesn't matter where you bought applecare from. The redemption code is the most important thing.

Yes. You may want to check out B&H Photo - they've got some of the best prices on Applecare around and are an authorized Apple dealer. Great company - I've bought gear from them for years.

Apple Store - $249
B&H - $190.53
Apple Edu Disc - $183.00

Education Discount is still least expensive, but you don't need a neighbor to buy from B&H....
