I have an iMac G5 iSight (2 years this month)... My DVD burner is giving me fits. I can read CD's and DVD's but cannot burn anything. I've tried CD-R's, DVD-R's, DVD-RW's and a dual layer DVD-R to create either a data disk or DVD. I've also tried using the OS X's CD writer and Toast Titanium and get a hardware error message every time.

My question is how does AppleCare typically handle this situation given that this is a 2 year old iMac? Will they replace the burner itself or would they replace the entire iMac with a refurb unit?

I am going to call this evening to start a trouble ticket and do have local service I can take it to if they say it needs service.

    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

They would most likely just replace the drive and would do the same no matter what the age of the machine. I had a 20" Core Duo iMac with a bad logic board and it was just over a year old. Of course they just replaced the logic board and not the whole machine.

    Good luck.
