Just a quick question for anyone who's got a replacement shipped out under Apple Care, how long does it normally take after the faulty machine has been sent to Apple? I was originally told the whole process would take 4-5 days, currently on 7!

    Thanks!

Judging from your specs (Jan-Oct 2008) and AppleCare mention, I assume you're talking about a post-12 month issue? But then you say 'replacement' which is slightly confusing - personally, I thought all AppleCare problems were dealt with on a 'fix' basis only replacing when the fix is either temporary or the machine develops further problems.

FWIW, my new MBA had screen lines and I've arranged a replacement under the 14-day rule. I was previously told that I'd have to have mine collected then wait a week or so for the replacement. Wasn't having that, so rang again last night, got rerouted to my regional (Europe) customer services and this time (after mentioning it is a work machine) they sent out a new MBA 'within 24 hours' (they called this morning to confirm) a few days after which (time for me to package it all up) I'll be contacted by TNT to arrange collection of my 'old' one. Top marks for service even if it did take a little persistence. Sorry no consolation to you I know, best thing I can suggest is keep chasing them.

The air was a refurb, bought about 5-6 weeks ago, had various different problems, firstly a strange liquid type mark around the bezel, then no sound, then the F key broke off, and I also noticed some graphics glitches before I boxed it up.

They wanted to repair, but it's my main work machine and I can't keep being without it + need to know I can rely on it, so they're replacing it.

Glad that i'm getting a replacement but it's taken a fair few phonecalls to get there. I guess i'm quiet impatient as I really need the machine for work - just want to know how long to expect - would rather be told "it'll take 2 weeks" and it take two weeks then to expect it after 5 days!

Hmm, I don't know exactly what the score is with refurbs (similar warranty I think) but your experience was similar to mine. The guy I spoke to in the US (the one who mentioned 'hush money' to keep it) said there's no way around sending the crappy one back, it being received, processed and a new one sent out....a process that could take 7-10 days. I wasn't having that so when I eventually spoke to someone in the RoI, I mentioned I couldn't be without it for work, which he understood perfectly and agreed to override - sending me a replacement before I had to send back the first one. Guess it's just a combination of persistence as you say and pot luck with who you get on the phone.
