If I have apple care on my ipad3 and bring it in, would I get a 3 or 4 in return? If 3, you think apple would trade them out for 4's when the new iPad comes out? Thanks.

You will get a 3. Apple tend to maintain stock of all models still covered by Applecare.

Apple still has original iPhones (from back in 2007) available for out-of-warranty and battery swaps.

I wouldn't ever expect a trade-up to a different model, unless they have a serious shortage of replacement parts. It's happened before, but sounds very rare.

At the store near me they have to order them. They don't keep them in stock.

That's still Apple keeping them in stock, just not holding stock at each and every Apple store

I don't consider that keeping them in stock.

I'll modify my original thread to say "available". That work for you?
