Figured I'd spend $99 on Apple care+ and go naked with my iphone. first time i ever bought warranty for anythng and first time i'm using a brand new phone without a case.

Also 1 replacement under applecare+ will cost you $150, but you lose that $100 whether you use it or not. If you do not get any insurance and need a new phone, it is $200, but you only pay if you need to :)

Not true. If you need to replace the phone and are still under the 2-year contract, a new iPhone 5 will cost you the full, unsubsidized amount, around $700. At $200, buying insurance is well worth the money.

not true, as I have done this. '

Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

iPhone model Out-of-Warranty Service
iPhone 5 $229
iPhone 4S $199
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,
iPhone 3G, Original iPhone $149

I'm sorry, but this is completely...

Numerous people on these forums have taken in their phones and no matter how beat-up or non-functional, they had them replace for around $200.

So I've come to the conclusion that the Square Trade warranty is a much better deal than AppleCare + (for me).

Now the next question is, do I really want Square Trade at all?

Pay $100 now for insurance to save $50 later (assuming refurb straight from Apple is $200)

I've never broken any iPhone since the original 2G.

Maybe I'll open another ING savings account and stash $200 for an "emergency broken iPhone" account.

I can see how SquareTrade is worth it if exchanging the phone two times within two years. It would cost $100 + $50 + $50 = $200 for 2 replacement iphones versus $200 + $200 = $400 from apple. But one replacement? Not sure if it's worth it for me...

I had my home button stop working (only about 50% of the time did it work) and I paid no deductible. They shipped overnight a replacement phone and I sent mine back to them.[/QUOTE]

I had the exact same experience with my 4. Home button acted up square trade overnighted a replacement with no deductible and sent a prepaid label to return the old one
I bought square trade for the 5 using the $35 coupon

Only think that sucks about the applecare+ is no coverage for stolen phones. I still went with applecare+ but can see why someone would go with the other.

Alright guys, question here. I'm currently deciding between the AC+ and ST warranties. I live 20 minutes away from an apple store. Right away, seeing ST's 4 replacement versus AC+'s 2 replacement, I sided with ST's warranty but, I've read that ST sends refurbished iPhones as replacements. I was wondering, If I got ST's warranty, if there was a problem, could I just bring it to the apple store, pay the $200 replacement fee and have ST reimburse me? I rather have a refurbished phone from apple rather than ST.

Yes, you can get a genius bar replacement and get a reimbursement from ST. I have done this before.

I've also read that ST can also choose to let themselves replace any parts that are malfunctioning, I've seen pictures of their repairs and I don't want that. Any info on the above?

I like the idea of purchasing ST but getting the replacements through the Genius Bar. My question is ST has a claim cap at $600. So wont you actually only get 3 replacements if they reimburse you $229-$50 for each one?

People have done so and I've read lots of commercial reviews that say its one of STs features but I haven't found anything on their website or in their contract spelling out this option.
I therefore wouldn't depend on it
If it ain't in the contract then they could disallow it at any time and you'd have no recourse at all.

BTW the replacement fee at Apple isn't $200 anymore. It went up.

You Choose Where to Fix It
Send it to our repair depot (we pay for shipping), or take it to your local Genius Bar or repair shop. No matter where you pick, we cover the cost.

Still confused. Shouldn't ST be the obv choice?
You get more replacements and it's about $50-60 cheaper than AC+

If anything happens, you just exchange/repair at an Apple store and have ST reimburse you. Am I missing something?

I'm thinking about which one to get as well, but to me, it looks like ST is the winner.

So i got my iPhone 5 for the full price. How do i go about on finding out what deductible or my options if i do add in the total coverage from verizon?

will i be paying for the phone full price again? will i get it replaced for free?

Can you help me out with the $35 squaretrade coupon code? Thanks.

Liquid contact. Pretty vague. It doesn't say anything about submersion.

Even then, why argue since ST is a better deal? :)

Same deal with SquareTrade but you get 4 replacements and it's $10 cheaper with coupon. :)

Whats the $10 coupon? TIA

Ins't that math here completely incorrect?

For two replacements in two years, it works out to be about the same from Apple Care + or Square Trade.

Apple Care + is $99 and $50 + $50 (for two replacements).

I believe it costs $89 for Square Trade and then $50 + $50 for two replacements as well.

The only difference is Square Trade is $10 less and allows you TWO ADDITIONAL replacements.

However, someone correct me if I'm mistaken, an added benefit of Apple Care+ that you wouldn't get with Square Trade is the ability to call in and speak with Apple Techs to troubleshoot. I don't know if that's an option with Square Trade nor do I know if anyone really needs the ability to call them, but it is an option.

----------

I know this is somewhat unrelated but, if I walk in to my Verizon corporate store can they sell me Applecare+ at the time of purchase? I've done some searching around the net and am getting conflicting answers.

I don't think Verizon offers AppleCare + at all. I might be wrong, but I thought the only option with Verizon was their own insurance.

----------

I am going back and forth on this issue too. Having used both, 4 replacements through Squaretrade over the years, I can say one benefit of ST is that if you dump your phone they reimburse you for a new one. Not a replacement, a reimbursement. This means if there is something new you want, you can get it. And then get another Squaretrade for your replacement. Its a pretty nice thing to be able to do instead of get a straight up replacement.

For example, my sister dumped her phone in the ocean, and they reimbursed us $650 for hers. She used a backup for a while and now she has paid for two of our iPhone 5 upgrades and warranties.

How was this possible? I thought that neither Apple Care+ or ST covered loss?

Slight error. If you are over 50 miles from an Apple store, you can call AppleCare + Sales and they will sell you the AppleCare + warranty. Less than 50 miles than one has to go in with the iphone to be inspected.

I understand that AppleCare + is available through Apple and you can do it over the phone after the fact if you're not within a close proximity of a store.

My understanding though is that you cannot get AppleCare + through Verizon directly. I believe that was what the original question was about.

Your comment:
I was told that if I get my iPhone replaced at the Genius Bar I wouldn't
have to pay a deductible?
This is for future reference btw, not for now.

I don't mean to be such a noob on insurance on phones. If someone can elaborate what a deductible is? and what happens if the inevitable happens and you need to get your phone replace/repair?

I bought an iPhone 5 from Verizon for full price and i currently have no insurance on it yet. i had just came off from the iPhone 4 and did have the TEC-Asurion/Total Equipment Coverage(took care of my iPhone 4 since it first came out and nothing has happened to it since then).

So how much would i have to pay to get my iPhone 5 replaced/repair when something bad happens?
