Applecare will replace 1st gen iPhone with 3G?

Apple doesn't make 1st Gen iPhone anymore and I have applecare for a few more months.

If it's unrepairable, will Apple replace with a 3G version?
 
It's possible, but don't get your hopes up. They will likely have plenty of refurbs in white boxes behind the counter for a long while.
