I intend to the iphone 16 pro 128gb but am considering the apple care?

So far I've bought it for my iphone 14 pro but not once have I cracked my screen since I always use a screen protector and a caudabe case.I bought the apple care abt one mth into owning the phone which is the only reason why I was able to get my battery replaced. Because at the 24th month of owning the phone, my battery was at 81%, it was only after that it went down to 78% and I was able to get the battery replaced for free.

Since Im gonna get the phone together with the apple care (employee disc), im worried theres a chance, the battery wont reach below 80% for the free change once the 2 years is up? And honestly, changing the battery without apple care is cheaper than purchasing apple care and hoping for the free change?

So I cant really see a good reason to get it?

I have a screen protector and a Caudabe case on mine too and have never bought AppleCare. It is a rather expensive insurance policy that is nearly as much as insuring my car, and I too have never damaged any of my iPhones. If by bad luck I ever do, I have it covered with my bank and home insurance as 2 alternatives.

It looks like it's not worth it for you. It's a personal decision, I've never bought Apple Care for iPhone. Same reason as above: I have a screen protector and a case, and credit card + home insurance. My devices are in perfect condition years after the purchase, and as you mentioned, changing the battery alone is cheaper than the Apple Care plan.

AppleCare is like any insurance product, you don't need it until you need it. By purchasing it, all you're doing it paying to transfer the Risk of damage / malfunction onto someone else.

The value of insurance is subjective to most. Some like the piece of mind and if they can afford it, why not! Others like to accept the Risk and if the phone breaks, they'll stump up the cost of repair. Some like to be clever and park the cost of AppleCare (and other insurances) into a Savings Account draw from that to help fund any repairs.

There isn't a right answer to answer to this as it's down to your own personal Risk Appetite.

What I would say though if you're thinking of getting AppleCare just for a replacement battery, I wouldn't bother. Its cheaper to just replace the battery.

Had my iPhone stolen last year. Apple Care paid for itself 10 times over, cover the cost of the insurance I have had over the past few years. I tend to always buy it for my Apple devices used on the go.

Woo my 15 Pro was damaged by water recently and voila an express replacement works :)

In my 15 years of iPhone ownership I have never purchased any AppleCare plans, and I only broke the screen once, the repair cost was just half of one AppleCare+ price.

I have a case, screen protector and AppleCare.
Really love this phone and would be gutted if anything happened to it that I couldn't afford to repair.

I bought AC+ Theft & Loss with my iPhone 16 Pro. Never had it before but I decided that should I lose my phone I wouldn't want to have to pay out another £1k.

Insurance is just a legal form of gambling.

Not really as there's no risk of Loss or Reward. All you're doing is paying someone else to pick up all the risk of loss or damage to your device.

Depends on how do you use your phone. If you use a case and screen protector all the time then probably no, the normal warranty and the warranty provided with your credit card is enough, but if you're like me and prefer to use your phone without any case and screen protector then its a no brainer. I personally hate cases and screen protectors so for me AC+ is more like a cost for my protection in case I drop it and damage my phone witch normal warranty won't cover.

I'd say that there is a risk involved. I'm at a loss whilst ever i'm making the monthly AC payments, but I could be rewarded if I need to receive a brand new iPhone and that gain is greater than the cost of the payments.

Have AppleCare on my iPhone 15 Pro. Last week, I took it in because the speaker volume was way low. Ultimately, after various repair attempts, they did a repair that would have cost me $790. It required swapping out everything except my camera, and screen. Basically, the internals of my iPhone are new (including battery and internal circuit board). So, this repair easily covered my AppleCare fee.

I think Apple care + is only worth it if you use your phone without a case.

On my last iPhone I used a flop wallet type case, the kind that covers the screen too and holds bank cards etc. Probably as much protection as you can give without buying something designed to be super tough. Dropped my phone a few times and never cracked the screen, however I did smash a camera lens. I replaced it myself but using a case is certainly no guarantee of protection.

Got it for my 16P. Peace of mind. Have had it and used it on previous phones, been thankful. So I’m on the plus side money wise anyway as I see it. And, yeah, I’m one of those strange people that goes caseless accept for rare occasions, want to enjoy it as it is.

There are several US credit cards that offer a free cell phone protection plan if used to pay your wireless bill. The average plan pays up to $800 per claim with a $50 deductible.

Never had insurance for my iPhone, until now. Don’t know why I got it, but will pay monthly until I feel I no longer want it.
Yes this is a good point, monthly or not! I know I probably want to have it 2y so I got the non-monthly option, and can cancel it anytime and get money back for the not used time, just cheaper this way. Then if I want to have it after the 2y I can go the more expensive monthly. Btw, took with theft and loss.

The standard rule is: don't insure stuff that you can pay for yourself. Some people have paid for AC+ for over a decade without ever needing it. That's the price of multiple iPhones.

Make the calculations for yourself if it's worth it. Don't forget to include service fees and deductibles as well. Paying out of pocket for a repair for an iPhone 16 with rear camera damage is cheaper than the price of AC+ plus deductible. If it gets damaged for a second time, then paying out of pocket again is still cheaper than AC.

Of course, your phone is most likely your most-used device in your daily life. Probably always within hands reach. AC is more than just "woops, broke it, let's get it fixed". It offers advantages like same-day service in many areas, express replacement shipments, mail-in repair, theft and loss, etc.

I once had an iPhone that had to be serviced (within warranty) that took nearly a month! In that scenario, I would have preferred to have had AC because then it would have been serviced either same-day or I would have gotten an express replacement in advance.

So, right now, I'm also considering going for AC+. Not necessarily because it offers the best value for a repair (spoiler alert: for the vast majority of people, it doesn't). But because it does offer some other advantages. The iPhone is my most important device. With AC+, I get the guarantee that I will never be without my iPhone for more than a day.

Agree, well put! It’s the advantages ”on top” of the std insurance stuff, assuring you swift handling of always having working device, that also has to be considered. It’s on this Apple differs from the other options.
