It’s $29 for a screen repair on the X with AC+

And it’s $99 for any other repair, with AC+ for the X.

he's adding in the cost you pay for AC+ on top of the repair cost vs the repair cost without paying for AC+.

As someone who has never bought AppleCare and does not believe in extended warranties (iPhone owner from 3GS-, iPad owner from 4th gen-, Mac owner since original Mac mini-), I am actually going to bite the bullet for my XS before the 60 days to add AppleCare is up. I've dropped it a few times now from very low heights onto not terrible surfaces (like wood), nothing has broken and while it looks and feels incredible durable I've become very uneasy about if I dropped it onto something much harder or at a greater height. The expensive published repair prices don't help either... For added discomfort, I noticed the AppleCare pricing was $99 back when the iPhone SE was new, now it's $199 and up to $9.99 x 24 (!) if you pay for it monthly

11 iPhones and not once have I bought AppleCare+. Had 1 screen replaced on an iPhone 6 after it fell 2 1/2 feet and cracked. I think that cost me $100. With all of the money I've saved by not getting AppleCare+, I can pay for any repair on my current iPhone, or even totally replace it, and still be money ahead.

And I know this thread is over a year old. 🙂

It was cheaper in the past because phones were $699, now they are $999+

The reason it makes sense for AC+ now is because a screen replacement cost is more than the cost of AC+ plus the $29 repair cost. In the past you could fix your screen twice and it was basically the same cost at AC+ plus the deductible.

Nope, I’ve had the iPhone since the 3GS and only had one break on me. I would rather pay for my phone to get fixed on the rare chance something happens vs giving Apple $200.

Screen Damage (with and without AC+)

Other Damage (with and without AC+)
$299 vs $549

No Damage (with and without AC+)
$199 vs $0

+1. AppleCare is $149 (for the XR....the model I’d purchase) and the deductible is $99 for anything other than a screen repair...screen repairs are $29. So, with any damage others than screen repair, you’re still out of pocket $249 with AppleCare. I typically skip AppleCare. Over the long haul...having been through multiple iPhones with none needing repair it’s worked for me.
