for me applecare was one the best decisions when getting the watch. I bought gen 0 Stainless steel during black friday 2016 (from B&H bought for $269), added applecare within few days. When i began to have trouble with it, around april-may 2017 apple replaced my watch with Series 2 (mind you in stores it was $599 - 42mm). When I went to the store to exchange my gen 0 for series 2 they also extended my applecare (which is set to expire in summer of 2019). So yea, I think its worth it 100%

AppleCare is just an extended warranty and I generally put it in the same category as all other extended warranties, they are generally a waste of money and just way to get more money out of you. I never buy it for iPhones/iPads/MacBooks/iMacs/etc. The Watch is the only device I'd considering buying it for since it's so exposed all the time.

AppleCare+ though is more an insurance policy

We know AppleCare is optional, so it’s not something they can necessarily “Get more money out of you” unless the customer chooses too. That said, with my time reading on this tech forum, I feel there are more than Who Have had severe regret that they did not purchase AppleCare for some of their products when something does happen unexpectedly, which now they are quoted with a higher repair tag that could have been reduced extensively if they had AppleCare.

This I agree with. And for the Apple Watch it makes complete sense being how it’s literally impossible to not hit the Apple Watch on something inadvertently on a daily basis, where AppleCare has been much needed for those who have accidentally damaged it.

There is a big difference between extending the warranty with the manufacturer and buying a third party extended warranty. I would never knowingly buy the latter.
