This has my attention. I may finally be "over" the need for headphone jack and home button.
I really like the landscape orientation of the front-facing camera and stereo speakers. It just might be time. 😁
D'oh! Got it confused with the iPad mini, which is almost 3 years old. My bad. It’s just a little over 1.5 years old. The chip is 3, soon to be 4 behind, and the RAM on M1 Air is double, but Apple will probably support this for about the same as M2 Air right now since they’re both “current models”
i have the 64Gb. with all my crap installed i still have 40Gb free. more than enough for me!Curious those with 64Gb does it constrain your user experience? Any regrets?...And just to weed out the I have a 64Gb iPhone users I'm asking those who have 512Gb iPhones and up. Ya know those who actually have data and apps.
Well you technically weren't wrong about the A14 haha. But I get you, I wasn't being smart-ellic or anything, I was hoping they would move to A15 for this past event. As far as support goes, it will be interesting to see when M1 Air ends vs. this iPad with half the RAM and a much less powerful chip.D'oh! I have a 64GB Air I keep for consuming media and trips with the kids. Honestly even loaded up with apps and games I've never seen it go over ~45GB. I did find it easier to use when paired with a 64GB Samsung thumbdrive as I was able to load up movies and TV shows onto that and leave the onboard space for apps. It was 14 bucks on Amazon, is the size of your thumb and completely eliminated any worry over running out of storage. Paired with a Penoval AX Ultra pen that routinely goes on sale for ~30 bucks and another 15 bucks for a Spigen screen protector it pretty much does everything you could ask from an iPad given the artificial limitations iPadOS.Curious those with 64Gb does it constrain your user experience? Double the RAM and the ability to use virtual memory. The RAM is huge especially for anyone who might use multiple browser tabs on an iPad, it will mean fewer tab reloads or stutters on media-intensive pages. The M1 iPad Air is on sale at Walmart for $399. I think the upgrades are worth the $100 price difference (faster performance, laminated display with better colors and antireflective coating, double the ram, 2nd gen Apple Pencil support, Magic Keyboard support)
What I really want right now: A current iPad mini (not one that's three years old!) which I can use to manage stuff like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and the eero app for my Mom, my aunt, etc. I am currently using an old iPhone 6s to do this, but it's kinda ghetto and not upgradeable to the current iOS/iPadOS. An iPad would work, but I really want something smaller. It's too bad Apple discontinued the iPod Touch -- that would have been perfect.Well you technically weren't wrong about the A14 haha. I think the mini will be updated soon, within a year, possibly this fall? Can't remember all the rumors and such but it's definitely getting close to time. Yes, iPod Touch would have been a great candidate for that if there were a current version. So right now I am in sort of holding pattern -- the thing I want is too old, and the thing that would work is too large.
Oh please. I had the 10th-gen iPad for two years and had no problem at all with 64GB. In fact, it made clear to me that I simply didn’t need an iPad Pro any longer. Not everyone is trying to use their iPad as a laptop replacement and the base iPad isn’t meant for that. At $299 this is an excellent device for email, texting, web browsing, FaceTiming and casual media consumption. Even with only 64GB. Those who really need more capacity or an iPad Pro already know who they are.64gb is really something around 30gb real free space to use after ipadOS 17 is fully installed.
Without proper file management the 64gb version becomes unusable very quickly.
It was time😂 Just got back from Best Buy... good trade-in values for my 256GB 5th gen iPad Mini and 64GB 9th gen. Price-matched Amazon. Ended up with a 64GB silver 10th gen and white smart folio for $10 out of pocket total. Simple and easy. This has my attention. Pick up an Air for 100 bucks more and a Smart Folio Keyboard. It's everything you're looking for based on your prior setup. I wish it had backlit keys but otherwise it works great and isn't heavy or clunky like the Magic Keyboard or this thing.I picked one of these up. Thought it’d be a fine replacement for my existing iPad Air 3… I can’t stand the new keyboard folio, to the point that I had to return everything. It’s too heavy and clunky, and the kickstand hinge seems like it won’t hold up very well. The older style vinyl-covered keyboard is much better imo.
No, it’s a one and a half year model. I’ve had one since the week it was launched. It’s a really nice device that has been with me all over the world and is a great if unglamorous workhorseIt's a nice price, but it's also a THREE YEAR OLD model. That means three fewer years of support in the long run. This is still a pass for me.
The chip is the same as the iPhone 12. Would you be interested in an iPhone 12 with 15% price reduction today? Don't think so, right? That's ancient. It’s just a little over 1.5 years old. @dominiongamma @applefan8254 @GrayFlannel kinda weird to disagree with someone saying that a particular device works for their own use case, innit? LOLI only use my iPad Pro to take notes and stream shows. 64 GB is plenty for my use case.
My iPad meets my needs perfectly and very pleased with it too. I’d be lost without it. ’Use case’ is pretentious patter and not applicable in this@dominiongamma @applefan8254 @GrayFlannel kinda weird to disagree with someone saying that a particular device works for their own use case, innit? LOL
The chip works just fine for anything the base iPad will be used for. Meanwhile, all that horsepower in the M2 and M3 chips won‘t even come close to being used in new iPads, thanks to the limitations of iPadOS. $299 for a 10th-gen base iPad is a good deal. The chip is the same as the iPhone 12. When I bought my iPad 9 the chip was 2 years old. Not buying a new iPad today where the chip is already 4 years old. Hope they release the 11 soon with something better.
(And no, Im not paying more for an air or pro with **** I don't need, might buy one used though if Apple won't step up their base iPad offering..)
The best alternative to iPad A14 right now seems to be iPad Air M1. God prices while there’s stockThe chip is the same as the iPhone 12. Would you be interested in an iPhone 12 with 15% price reduction today? Don't think so, right? That's ancient.

Doesn't matter if it's "fine". I'm not buying something new with a 4 year old CPU in it. Then I might as well save money and buy used instead. The chip works just fine for anything the base iPad will be used for.
