Another Live music set? Eh

Nothing here really makes me want to quickly buy more things from the App Stores - or itunes.
Something camera or productive would have been nice too.
Well, maybe the travel book and Hugo will be nice to have. And suppose the wimpy kid diary could lead to purchasing more books in the series.

Apple should have been more truthful about the nature of this promotion. Sure it's "12 days of Gifts"... for people 2 to 10 years old. But it omitted mentioning the latter part essentially punking its adult patrons. Stupid move Apple for getting your post elementary school customers excited about solid useful free apps, adult level movies, and good music. Instead you wasted our time like a two-bit carnival barker. Two huge thumbs down for this juvenile prank. (And yes, I'm bitter -- not really just annoyed at the tactic). :)

Looks like day 12 is The Rolling Stones.

Not complaining at all!

Meh. If you like the Stones you already have all their good stuff. Apple should have offered up something fresh.

I think what hurt us more this year was that Apple launched the App of the Week promotion. So what could have easily been given out as gifts for the 12 days, ended up being given to us throughout the year.

Thanks for this. Especially your original post with all the links. I got every single gift. Including Day 2 A.M. & P.M. gifts.
and my thanks to the macrumors community for posting what they got each day, I could not of added so many things to the list without their help.

I know I am a parent, but I really like the inclusion of the child content. Let's face it, if you are an adult and there is some $5 content or app that you really want for your iDevice you would either have bought it already or would have to be very lucky for it to get picked as one of 12 gifts out of millions of possibilities. I doubt I would have gone out and bought content and games for the kids but getting it for free means there is now something for them on the iPad. My 3 year old hasn't stopped playing Toca House since Day 4! Kids are also a much more grateful audience, I didn't hear any of my kids moan about the other free games, films and tv shows.

Like Lorde's No Better, most of the iTunes EPs are put together just for the 12 Days of Gifts and are removed from the iTunes store when they are no longer free. So if Apple happened to pick a band you liked, you may have ended up with something that was not only free, but also exclusive.

It was good to get an update to the Lonely Planet guide for a 3rd year in a row, amoungst a reasonable selection of books. We got music from the young (Lorde), middleaged (JT) and the old (Stones).

In fact this year was very similar to the previous 2 years (instead of Sonic we got Rayman, instead of Coldplay we got Avicii etc, etc) but personally I would say this year was better (possibly because I now have 5 iTunes accounts and before I only had 2).

I'm sure some of you were hoping for big apps like iMovie, but like I said before, those that want it can probably afford the $5 to buy it.

See you all next year!

Here's an idea. Delete the app. Then, this time next year, don't download it and then you won't be disappointed by your free stuff. Everyone's a winner.

You're welcome.

I guess the UK version offered a high horse or soapbox. :D

Look, have a glass of ice tea and cool down. Did you happen to notice the :) emoticon on my post. It's not a huge deal to me but, yes, like others I'm a little annoyed in the fact Apple punked most of us adults into thinking they'd be offering something a thoughtful gift, not a "white elephant." Read some of the other posts here I'm not alone. No one appreciates a "white elephant" gift. Sorry. The vast, vast, majority of stuff was for tots, hardly a little something for everyone -- in the spirit of the holidays.

But, yes, I've deleted the app even before you suggested it seeing as the promotion is over anyway. That should give you some cheer. You sound like you need some.

We just expect more from Apple.
There were a few good gifts but overall the quality of some was lacking and much seemed targeted toward the younger audience. And then there were some nice gifts worldly that we're not offered in the states.

But I download and delete the ones I didn't like. Figured who knows when somebody you know might want to check out that free thing.

I'm perfectly calm and perfectly cheery. I'm not the one complaining about free stuff.

Gets worse every year

Based in the UK, I've not seen a single thing worth getting this year.

Mostly stuff for kids, one bit of 'chic lit' and a poorly reviewed Rolling Stones EP.

The best thing in recent years was a Charlie Chaplin film, which my nieces enjoyed!

I agree, there wasn't anything worth getting. Hugo wasn't bad. I'm not a fan of live tracks Then came along Sesame Street... I have no words to say about that. Although it's a nice gift for the kids.

With that logic Apple can never give us anything we would like: "If you like _____ you already have _______." Apple can never win in this case.

The gifts were generally not up my alley, but it doesn't cost me anything so why on earth would I complain? I got a nice Scorsese movie and now some Stones (which goes along with Scorsese for a number of reasons)

No, you are complaining about the complainers. :D

Just saying it's not fresh. I would think there would be plenty of new, less played bands that would love exposure by giving away a free song or two on iTunes. Rolling Stones are how old? Most people are well exposed to the Stones and if they like them have plenty versions of their music. That is all. The Stones offered today are not even new ones -- just oldies sung live for the 10 millionth time.

No matter what they chose to give away, some people would still complain.

I got the book and the Stones songs. I thought about the movie but didn't seem like anything I would be interested in.

Anyways, if you want something else, go buy it. I've been discovering lots of of new old things that I want that are in the iTunes store. :)

First of all Apple already gives away free songs for new, "less played" bands to give them exposure. It is called "Single of the Week" (which they have had for years now) and right now it is Charlotte OC, whom I believe is "less played" than The Rolling Stones. They do it all year long. And they even have an app so that you don't miss any, click this link

Second of all, The Rolling Stones may be the oldest band still together as of 2014 but that does not mean that everyone who would like them has "plenty of versions of their music" At least one of the songs on the free EP is a live version of a "new song" of theirs from 2012. But even if they were all from the 1960s they could be "fresh" to someone even if you do not think it is.

Apple did not make this "12 Days of Gifts for Chupa Chupa"

Oh yeah, Apple also has "App of the Week"

First of all I don't know why you are getting your panties in a bunch over my opinion -- well not just my opinion as I seem to share it with many others -- about this promotion. I don't even think you read and considered what I originally wrote. And juvenile that you have to resort to personal attack. Cute graphic.

1) Panties are not in a bunch, I am simply stating my opinion just as you are, I never told you not to post your opinion. I have posted other comments directed at others who are not happy with their gifts. And it looks like my opinion is also shared by others.

2) I did read your original post:
"Meh. If you like the Stones you already have all their good stuff. Apple should have offered up something fresh."
(That was the only part I commented on, not the ridiculous
"Apple should have been more truthful about the nature of this promotion."
as if they lied somehow? When did they state what kinds of apps, movies and songs they were giving away? How is it a "juvenile prank" to give away something that Chupa Chupa is not happy with?)

Your original post about the Stones was fully read and considered, I just disagreed and wrote my comments. I think the Rolling Stones are still selling songs in 2014 despite not being "fresh." Young people who were not even born until decades after Brian Jones died have found Stones albums well after they were recorded. And some Stones fans may not have "all their good stuff".

I proved a couple of your point invalid: Apple does give away song from smaller bands, and the songs are not all "oldies sung live for the 10 millionth time", so it would seem you are the one with the panties in a bunch, despite the: "It's not a huge deal to me but..." (There is always that "but")

I'm a little annoyed in the fact Apple punked most of us adults into thinking they'd be offering something a thoughtful gift, not a "white elephant." Read some of the other posts here I'm not alone.
I have read the other posts, and replied to some of them. You are not the only one whining about free stuff. Apple does not owe you anything. Just like all the gifts, they are not for everyone but they are for someone (Some people were delighted at the tracks)

3) Where is the personal attack? I made two statements that I standby and that can be proven to be true, not only about you but about many people including me: "It is not all about you" and "Apple did not do this promotion to satisfy you" A personal attack would be me calling you something or insulting you in some way, not just saying something you do not like.
