Several readers have reported that Apple has sent out emails today indicating that the 17" MacBook Pro has been delayed by a couple of more weeks. The email indicated that ship dates have been pushed back by about 10-14 days to February 19th, 2009:
To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you again for your order! Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer than we projected. As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro
until February 19, 2009.
These emails went out to those with the earliest orders placed immediately after the announcement that the 17" MacBook Pro at Macworld.

This, of course, means that the "Now Shipping" graphic that was briefly displayed on Apple's Canadian online store was a mistake.

Typical... how long has it been?

Must be having problems with the internal battery and it's leaked all through the internals of the lappy, destroying it! Just sayin'

I think there's an extra "Delays" in the title. :p

But more to the point...good things come to those who wait. Better that Apple fix up any last-minute bugs than ship out an unfinished product that they have to recall/scramble to code a software fix for.

Hey guys, I need some help.
I consider to purchase a MBP, but I heard iMacs are probably coming out with quad-core processors. Then what about MBP?? Is MBP gonna be used Intel Quad-Core too?? Should I wait ?? By the way, Snow Leopard will be available soon??? Really confused now, please please give me some directions!!!
Thanks guys.

Please use more ?'s and !'s next time. I don't think your question/concern came out clearly enough there.

I was able to get my current 2-3 shipping charge dropped, then upgraded to next day for free, and got 100$ off my current older. I wasn't mean just nice and concerned since this was my first mac purchase and the woman was very nice.

I wonder:

Apple INSISTED to me that the new Unibody 17" MacBook Pro had the EXACT same graphics defect related to Quartz Extreme that all 2008 MacBook Pros and all current Unibody MacBook Pros have. This is the defect they've been working on for nearly 11 months!

But I wonder if they just can't bear to ship their new flagship 17" with such an obvious and devastating defect.

Or, perhaps if this unit DOESN'T exhibit that defect, shipping it would open them up to replacing a ton of MacBook Pros for extremely annoyed and vocal users that have been unable to have the problem solved.

See! Apple values its mobile customers more than those who buy their desktops.

Apples known for doing this kind of thing for customers regardless of the product they have.

How does this show those with laptops are helped out more than those with desktops?

No attempt at an explanation?

Thats what Apple needs to do! If I had pre-ordered a new 17-in, I would not be in a very good mood right now. They could atleast say what went wrong.

I would go with the MBP that is already out. It is not very likely that Apple is going to update them for about 6 more months. And what if Apple doesn't really come out with the Quad-cores? I wouldn't expect much of a change in the future iMacs compared to the current ones.

Also, I am probably never going to get a desktop again. I am going to stick with the big-screen laptops because of the fact that most of them are fast, they are portable, and your not stuck at a desk to work on whatever.

Ok, I meant:

Should I wait for a little longer to buy an MBP, or right now is the best time

to get one? Will Apple switch Core-2-dual to Quad-Core later this year? I can

wait if Apple changes the processors in a few months!

Thanks.

The chinese new year is what went wrong. The entire country shuts down for about 10 days. The holiday started on the 26th of January and all those workers were not producing your computers.
For arguments sake, I don't think it is an option for Apple to pay "overtime" for them to stay. For many workers, the CNY is the only time during the year they can see their families.

Chinese New Year, that's what I thought too. Delivery of the Air was disrupted about this time last year.

Hopefully this isn't delayed because of a defect and more of a supply issue.

I would suggest for those planning to make a laptop your only computer to add an external monitor to it when using it at home. Laptops will make your posture very poor if you are looking down while at your desk. You will look like Bill Gates!

instead of criticizing his post why don't you give some input??????????????? He's a newbie and just needs some guidance... as am I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that enough ?'s and !'s for you??????????????? :D

and yeah peterlptl, I'm waiting patiently for the updated iMacs. :)

Thanks JustinNYCity. Frankly, I've been browsed this site for more than 1

year, I just registered cause' I really wanted some help from those who have

more experiences on Macs, but I didn't think people would give their attitudes

as "help" like that. So disappointed, probably I shouldn't ask anybody here.
