To be honest I rather they launch a foldable as the anniversary iPhone, an all screen iPhone just sounds stupid.

Ugh, I swear, if Apple demands that you design your app's UI to fit this form factor, I'll scream. It's bad enough that I have to shoehorn the UI into an iPhone Mini which, btw, exists nowhere in the Android world.

You all miss the point. I can totally see myself with this folding iPad and reading an e-book on the porch. When a fly lands on my screen, I can slam my iPad shut. muahahahaha....
I heard the code name is Venus, as in Fly Trap

What I'd love to see from Apple is a "foldable" MacBook Pro - i.e. a regular 16" MBP, but with two additional screens that can unfold to the left/right of the main display. I've been waiting for Apple to re-introduce a 17+" laptop, but I guess I guess that won't happen. And three 16" screens would be nirvana for digital nomads like myself.

And likely so thick that people scream it is too fat.

THIS is so terrible but typical and expected of apple. LONG freaking list of failures and zero innovation for past several years. This is EXpected. I expect nothing less than missing deadline and DOA for majority of apple products.

A full sized iPad that fold out into a massive iPad? Imagine the cost. Who is this product for? For artists? Would Apple make such a device for one small category of user?
I envision it’d be an iPad that’s unusable while folded (like a laptop -unless you have an external screen- or current iPad w/Magic Keybaord) and is only usable while open. Anyone wanting a smaller iPad would still be able to get a Mini or a Air or Pro, this would be for those that need/want the larger touch screen space BUT would like it to be more compact when carrying it around.

Apple isn’t going to make another mini, if you want something super small try this:
I'm pretty sure Apple won't rmake a new mini, I didn't refer to that.
I meant 2nd version of the foldable the thread is about.
We might need phone's in the future as well? But maybe less?
I'm much more interested of the OpenAi/ChatGPT device that Sam Altman and Joni Ive are working on, that Powell-Jobs is backing as well. A lot more then a new iPhone. Don't think that device will be big if Joni design it either 😉

You're envisioning it more like a laptop form factor, and using it as such in a lap tilted fashion when open?

Why do people want this? What is the point?
Novelty and "cool" factor.

Just look at the comments in this thread, people complaining that Apple isn't "innovating" because its not radically redesigning smartphones every generation, as if that had any impact on their ability to do what people want them to. These people think it has to LOOK dramatically different in order for it to be innovative. So being able to fold, whether there's any real world use case is somehow desirable to them. Its pure form over substance and its hilarious.
