Still running iMac late 2013 4x3.5 i7 32gb ram with OCLP Ventura as my daily driver to produce orchestral music in Logic without any issue.

Never would have thought to hit the 9 year mark (soon to be 10 šŸ˜„). But why upgrade if the performance is still perfectly fine?

Anybody have the wallpapers? Those look perfect for the blur effect on the Home Screen.

I wonder how many series 1 owners who bought the gold edition are still happy with their purchase.........

Apple obsoletes it’s equipment too quickly.

Will be interesting to see how quickly M1 models become Vintage/Obsolete.

Granted, it’s not just Apple soldering things like RAM to the Motherboard now but if that’s the way computers are going then they should be held accountable when touting their ā€œGreenā€ credentials.

regardless i guarantee you there are FAR more "obsolete" apple computers out there still working perfectly well than there are Windows machines.

I have a 2009 iMac thats still going strong. Granted there were some certificates issues and the OS is rather elderly but its still working day to day.

The only reason I just replaced my 2013 27-inch iMac is because of this. It was still a great machine that I used every day and felt no strong urge to replace. It's really a shame.

I know I can install Ventura on it with OpenCore. But I don't like running non-official stuff on my daily driver.

I bought my fully spec iMac back in October 2014 and it was the best. Recently I have upgraded to a Mac Studio/Studio Display because the iMac showing its age. It's ok for general usage now but not power heavy tasks like it used to and the 32gb just drained away with bloated software. Here it is next to the new display which, I have to say, has been a slight adjustment lesson to the size of the previous display and the missing chin.

I still have my Series 1 watch and it works perfectly fine still. Also those Macs are totally serviceable, you can actually replace the RAM and drives in them.

Be awesome if they added an M2 Pro option for the new iMac. Not a new iMac Pro, just the standard model.

I also used my series 1 till a few months ago, until the battery decided to expand and Apple doesn’t want to repair it.

This ā€œvintageā€ stuff is really annoying with devices that are relatively hard to open and repair.

When will the iMac 27" replacement come out? I want it at a larger display size with a M2 Pro/Max/Ultra chip inside.

It’s so lame they artificially prevent older mac from getting the latest mac os when the hardware is fully capable running the new os. Those 5+ year old macs especially the ones with upgraded memory etc..can run the latest mac os without ANY issues.

we need a class action to get apple to stop forcing people to upgrade just to use the latest os, especially when the os is included as part of your original purchase, why shouldnt you be able to get the newer versions…

lame lame lame

Don't worry, I have a nearly 23 year old PowerBook G4 with Mac OS 10.1 that still works and connects to the Internet. If that can work, can you imagine how much life is left in a Mac from just 8 years ago? You will probably still be able to use that Mac if you take care of it you will probably still be able to use it in 2035. Look at all those 128K Macs, iMac G3 and iMac G4's, now collectors items. Part of it was Steve's philosophy the make the Mac a more appliance like computer. How often do you buy a new TV or microwave?

I hope the M1 iMac still has a good 5yrs on it at the minimum. I intend keeping mine for as long as :); a very cute looking device to behold

Awhile back I would have agreed with you, but I took a chance on using OCLP to upgrade my 2011 27 inch iMac to Monterey and damn it's as stable (if not more so) as my 2019 and 2020 iMacs running Monterey natively. Not as fast mind you, but I get that same tingle using it as I did when I got my first Mac 512KE back in the day.

Best shot in the arm for these machines is getting a Samsung SSD and using Carbon Copy Cloner to duplicate your HDD to it, then boot off it using USB 3. Insanely simple solution to get a massive performance boost to any of these machines using a HDD.

I do it for my clients frequently and it's always a pleasure to see how much happier they are with this generation of iMac.

Just tickles me when less than 10 year old watch is called vintage when the rest of the world calls this a vintage watch...

Still running my 2015 iMac and it still performs great. The only problem is I can't update the OS anymore and it doesn't have thunderbolt 3 or USB-C. I would have bought a new iMac years ago if Apple built an Apple Silicon 27" iMac when the introduced the 24". Not sure why they are not updating that model, it was one of the best computers ever made.

Alternatively I would gladly buy the Studio Display with a Mac mini if they had updated the mini along with all their other computers and it supported dual monitors and if they didn't charge $400 for that little tilt piece in the monitor stand that is basically a requirement because the stand is too low without it. They're trying to steer everyone in this segment to the Mac Studio and Monitor but it's just overkill for most of our needs. I don't like having to spend the extra money or take up the extra desk space for something that's well beyond my needs. I'll never come close to maxing that thing out, and ports will likely go obsolete before the internals ever do.

I'm surprised the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015) is not on the obsolete list as it's discontinued on the same date as the Late 2014 model. Apple, please bring back the iMac with a larger display.

Next on the list will be my 2015 27" iMac.

Which has just conked out thanks to the SSD calling it a day šŸ˜ž
That’s unfortunate, but you can easily replace it. I’ve put SSDs in dozens of new base iMacs that only had the (practically unusable) 500GB spinning drive.

If this were an AS machine, it would likely be trash.

My 2014 iMac 5K is still a great email/web browsing machine. And Ventura runs pretty well with opencore.
I'm glad you confirmed that. I too have one that I'm reluctant to abandon as it's still plenty powerful for my needs.

Was it a nightmare to install? I've not used opencore yet so I don't really know what's entailed.

Absolutely insane that Apple considers a high-end PC sold until late 2015 (and cost what, > Ā£2000? in base spec ?) ā€œobsoleteā€.

I’m writing this on a windows PC thats 5 years older and still gets updates of Win 10 and can run anything.

This crap puts me off committing to more Apple hardware.
