I don't do any photo editing so I don't need the 218 PPI. At 27" even 115 PPI 4K is good enough. But I still wouldn't buy the 27" Studio Display when I can buy the LG 32U990A-S UltraFine evo 6K Nano IPS 224 PPI for $1300 (MSRP is $2K).

Retina-class displays aren't just for photo editing.

For many of us, the 218 ppi is essential for text work.

I have a 163 ppi side-by-side with my 218 ppi, and I find it noticeably less fatiguing to view text with the 218 ppi because the 163 ppi looks slightly fuzzy by comparison. So my eye is always searching for focus on the 163 ppi but can never quite find it.

Maybe my workstream isn't suited for it but I think $1600 for just the entry level (not even XDR) 27" glossy display is ridiculously expensive. I recently bought a Dell U4323QE for $1000+tax and it's been fantastic for productivity. I have 3 different Word docs open at once (2 for reference, 1 working file).

Apples and oranges. Your display has a very, very small 104ppi and it's 90% plastic. Every new Apple device with a display since 2017 has been 218ppi or better. That's more than twice the Dell's. The Studio Display's build quality is the pinnacle of the industry. It's worth every single penny, especially for creatives making a living with their Macs.

So, are they going to go back to making a 32” display ? One that an actual display, meaning without the fancy cameras, microphones, or speakers ?

27 inch is a no go for me.
