Alongside the launch of new Mac Studio and Mac mini models, Apple today expanded its 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max to Vietnam and countries in Europe that use the type C two-pin Europlug.

The updated variant of the power adapter has a retractable two-prong design. The prongs pop back into the power adapter's enclosure, making it easier to tuck into a bag or a pocket. Apple previously debuted a standard U.S. variant in September 2025 alongside the iPhone 17 models, and a type G plug version in November 2025.

Countries where the type C 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max is available include Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Vietnam. In most eurozone countries, it's priced at €45.

The 40W Dynamic Power Adapter is the same size as Apple's 20W charger, but it offers faster 40W charging. It also supports up to 60W charging in short bursts to speed up charging further. The power adapter can fast charge iPhone 17 models, the iPhone Air, and the iPad Pro models.

where did you get this country list? did they make an announcement somewhere? i’m from Greece and it’s weird how it wasn’t included in the list.

Good to see that it is available in more countries. Unfortunately it is still not available in my country and hopefully it will be available when the new iPhones launch.
 
It's almost impossible to find an adapter supporting PD 3.2 and AVS not made by Apple. These guys have a good thing going with this charger.
Google's 67W Pixel Flex Dual Port brick also supports PD 3.2 and Google like Apple from my experience makes some of the best/highest quality and reliable bricks on the market but like Apple, the retail prices if you buy directly from Google are on the high side for a power brick.
 
I'm trying to understand this dynamic 40W charger. Does it mean that it can only supply up to 60W in either short bursts or a short period of time before it has to dial back down to 40W? In other words, it cannot sustain 60W charging for too long?

This is how it works. It has a temperature sensor that will limit power to prevent overheating.

IKEA also has a "dynamic" charger that works the same way.

Isn't that just more honest marketing? Don't nearly all chargers throttle after a while, but they just don't mention it?

It's probably available in Greece too, but the country lacks an Apple online store for us to verify.

All chargers from reputable brands have temperature control for safety reasons to prevent overheating. But I think they will just turn off and not try to throttle power. So it's possible, that Apple was the first company to implement this "dynamic" charging technique.

But I agree, it's quite a convoluted way to describe a very simple technical concept.

It’s not just throttling. The benefit is the adjustable voltage (in much smaller increments). Other non AVS chargers use fixed voltages in much larger steps. So, it may start charging at 15 V but then step down to 9 or even 5 V when it gets too warm.
 
I have had the US version of this charger for a while. Very very useful for giving a quick charge boost for an M5 iPad, also great as a small portable charger for a MacBook. Highly recommended.

There is also PPS which is used by many Android phones. But for some reason Apple never supported this protocol. They had to use AVS which so far is only used by them. Well at least it's a USB standard and some proprietary protocol.
