It has been around for a month but still haven’t seen even one person using it.
I’ve seen students at my high school using it. Many more than I ever saw use an Air or Pro. It’s also what I’m sure I’ll get my high school senior who will be leaving for college soon as an education major. She doesn’t need some high horsepower device like an engineer or computer science major might need.

VW jumping on the Neo bandwagon hoping the Neo name will bring them lots of sales too. 😂

Some people preferred the MacBook Neo over the MacBook Air M1/M2 due to its availability. Well... 😅
Which would you choose for a non technical college major or just as a device at home for the general email, web surfing type stuff?

For those looking for a ‘blush’ model to ship quickly it looks like B&H currently has the 512GB model available.

Apple should add ability to sell relatively inexpensive tablemate style tables and or slightly more premium small adjustable standing desks to "add to cart" while purchasing MacBook neo. As well as adjustable laptop stands for better accessibility to make it so the screen is at eye level to reduce back and neck strain while using the device.

An A19 Pro Neo with 12GB of RAM may sway me away from a M5 MacBook Air if Apple is forced to release it sooner than expected (like this summer already). It would make more sense for Apple to go A19 Pro than restarting the A18 Pro production line. The Neo would become even more popular.

Outside of the RAM issue there has never been a retail Mac or PC laptop this good spec for spec at the time.

The next model will completely obliterate everything else if it comes equipped with 12GB RAM many are hoping for.
Spec for spec? You mean the paltry 8GB RAM and tiny 256GB SSD? I don't think there are any Windows laptops that are sold with those low-end specs now. Or you mean the phone chip Apple used in the Neo laptop? Or the mediocre screen they used? There are $600 deals on Windows laptops with OLED screens. Or, maybe you mean the single usable USB port (the other might as well just be a charge port since it's a lame USB 2.0, which is just amazing in a new product to have a USB 2.0 port)? Lastly, there is the slow-as-SATA speed SSD.

The specs aren't impressive. They are compromises that allow Apple to sell the Neo for $599, which is impressive, since Apple is not known as a good-value brand. Single core performance is great. Everything else is just usable enough for people who don't care, which is the target market. If Apple does the A19 Pro (12GB) at the same price, that will be a pretty good deal for a low-end MacBook and who knows, they may improve on some of the other compromises.

I'm not so sure it's all that stellar from a hardware perspective. It's very good for the price but seems on par more or less with what some Windows PC makers have sold (well, at least before the DRAM price increases). The big claim to fame for the Neo is that that good hardware comes with MacOS. I won't try to claim MacOS is objectively better than Windows, but for a large number of people it is at least subjectively better especially for those with iPhones that like the ecosystem.

The screen color calibration is absolutely top notch, which most Windows laptops can't even remotely accomplish (in this price range). That and the build quality alone is a step above the competition. The Neo isn't perfect, but for what it offers, it's pretty great.

spec for spec compared to the rest of the market? pretty tough to beat IMO.

Yes, I’m including the entire package.

Build quality, display, speakers, wireless connectivity, ecosystem integration, cpu performance and battery life. It all feels premium and performs pretty well for what most people buying these machines would expect.

I think everyone is. 😛
I wasn’t, I knew it would be an instant favorite the minute I saw it. I called a few people and told them that if they were serious about getting a Mac laptop there was no better time for them to do so affordably.

4 of them listened, preordered and none have been inclined to return it. One even switched from Android to an iPhone once she saw continuity working between a friend’s Mac and iPhone.

The faster they sell, the faster Apple will introduced the A19 Pro version with 12GB RAM.
I sure hope so. 12GB and it’s an instant buy.

However, if they decide to start the production of the A18 Pro again we won’t be seeing the A19 for a looong time given how good the Neo is selling. There would be zero incentive for Apple to release a higher speced model for the same price.
