Apple should be ashamed of the price they wanted for those wheels. Utterly delusional.
Saying that... don't they charge a few hundred for letting you BUY height adjustment on a monitor stand ??!
How they get some things so right and other stuff so wrong is beyond comprehension.
I sprang for the height-adjustable display stand, so they got my money. But I'll say this: I was disgusted to have to pay a few hundred dollars for something that should have been far less, and it has soured my view of Apple to this day, to the point that I now buy less Apple gear than I would have otherwise.

I don't know that my view is the norm or if Apple even has a way to monitor the damage that overcharges like this do to their brand, but it damaged my perception and I doubt I'm alone. Same thing even knowing they sold $700 wheels -- Apple, you may have made some sales, but you also communicated to us all that you think your users are chumps. There is a price to greed.

When one can purchase a Neo, iPhone e or iPad for the same price as 4 wheels that seems to be tone deaf by the MacPro team.

Jokes aside, i'm genuinely curious as to whether they sold many of these.

Even though $700 might seem outlandish, if they sold abysmally low numbers of these; they might've lost money on the development & manufacture of them
So what you're saying is if apple had priced them reasonably and sold more units, they might have been profitable? I can't imagine apple sold many of these so your thesis is realistic. I too would like to see the numbers behind the pricing.

I kind of saw the Mac Pro being discontinued but will it be permaneant this time? I really do not see a need for such a large tower anymore. If they do another Mac Pro I would hope its a bit smaller but then maybe they just make a Mac Studio Pro lol

Not surprised as all accessories related to Mac Pro will be discontinued. Wonder how many Apple would have sold till now.

The Mac Pro was a pretty great computer. Lots of IO. Slots. Multiple hard drives. upgradable RAM. RIP.

Farewell to the hands-down best wheels in the market. You will never be forgotten.
Whoever managed to order one of the last ones on sale, I'd consider never opening them. The sentimental value is even higher than the potential resale or even auction value.

Well, we all know what this means - in a couple months, new-in-box ones are going to be selling for way over retail on eBay.

I would honestly like to know how many units of these apple sold over the life of the product? Was it in the 10s, 100s...?
Cynical me would speculate:
  • Business tenders for large order including M Mac Pros & N Pro XDRs
  • Apple bids.
  • Business’s procurement bod calls to haggle (to justify his salary)
  • Apple throws in free wheels and XDR stands
  • Massive Savings = M x $700 + N x $1000
  • Procurement bod justifies salary
  • Apple clinches sale
  • Triples all round!
