It would be crazy to update AirPods Max and not include the latest H2 chip so that it can have the same features as AirPods Pro, but all the rumors that have come out so far suggest exactly that is going to happen, that AirPods Max will receive only a port change and new colors. It seems a strange thing for there to be multiple rumors about if it's not true.

Apple needs to work on enhancing the durability of the AirPods Max.

I baby mine and never wear them to work out, never had condensation issues, and they still broke on me around the two-year mark. AppleCare is no help since it only lasts for two years and many people start to have problems around that point. I was able to get a battery replacement (which effectively replaces the entire ear cup since they don't actually replace the battery), but I'm getting connection issues yet again. I'm forced to reset my AirPods almost every time I put them on my head. They are, sadly, the most unreliable product Apple has ever made. And yet they are by far one of my favorite products when it works.

Having heard examples of "8d" music and how it uses spacial audio I'm looking foward to what game developers come up with. RPGs that can make sounds location specific will be awesome!

Passing up all the discounts for the original Max has been difficult. I’ll finally take the plunge when the 2nd gen are released. I’m curious to see what they offer.
Yeah, I definitely don't blame ya

I was thinking that originally myself when the 1st gen of them was out, but with how much I loved my Pros at the time, I dedided to go for them because the way these just work is nothing short of amazing compared to other Bluetooth headphones

Even though the change of the port from lightning to USB-C is the only real change being made for gen 2, I'm possibly thinking about springing for them as that right there means I won't need to carry a lightning cable anymore with my other devices charging either via USB-C (in the case of my iPhone 15 and 6th gen iPad mini) or the magnetic charger of the Apple Watch (of which can also charge my AirPods Pro case, as I have the 2nd gen that has the speaker for Find My and that ability to charge via the watch charger)

I guess I'll be buying a supply of AirPods 2 to last me a decade or so.

Same

The new shape of the AP3 doesn't work for me (too big and bulbous)

I wish they'd just update the AP2 guts if need be and keep multiple models going. We all have different ear shapes and preferences, necessitating some options on style/shape/size/fit

They keep mentioning this in all these articles but I voice isolation already with my AirPods Pro 2. I’ve had it for years. I used to walk around my neighborhood talking to my friend and I’d even turn it off and on do he could hear the difference. All traffic and any other outside noises would be completely eliminated. I turn it off and all the sounds would return for him. It even completely cut out a fire engine roaring by once.

  • When wearing a beanie or similar, short stems are too short for the mic function.
  • You can use the tap operation with gloves and/or a beanie, unlike the squeeze operation, which also tends to be more fiddly in general.
  • The AirPods 1/2 fit is perfect for me, the AirPods 3 are too thick.
Did you know you can control them using your phone?

My Max has been giving me a lot of problems lately. I have to reboot every day for my iPhone to recognize it. There’s something going on with the sensor and/or Bluetooth connection and/or software. Apple couldn’t help me so a new AirPods Max is a hard no from me. I’ll use this til it dies and go with another brand in the future.

Ironically my favorite thing about the Max is what most people hate… the lightweight case. It’s the only headphone case I’ve ever used. Never touched the cases for my AKG, Sennheiser, Bose, etc.

I wish they would just fix the current models and stop updating them with breaking changes. I'm so tired of all the problems that interfere with my meetings and waste my time. The wired ones were so much better, but here we are.

While I realize this article is specifically talking about AirPods in their various forms, have there been any rumors of a refreshed version of the PowerBeats Pro? I feel like it has been *several* years since they were released/updated, and I'd love a new version for running.

Judging from the stock at every physical and online retail store I come across, it seems Apple has produced an ungodly number of AirPods 2nd Gen.

They can't be repaired, so it's not like anyone is holding on to them for more than 2-3 years.

And since the EU regulations will only ban Apple from producing new ones with Lightning after the deadline, not from selling the ones made before the deadline, they'll probably still sit on store shelves some 4 years from now.

They are also still a pretty solid product, albeit a bit too pricey for the level of fidelity they deliver.

I do prefer their flat EQ profile over the muddiness of most similar headphones. They're perfect for anything but music and movies with wide, expansive audio.

I would speculate that the confusion about H1 or H2 in the next Max is because Apple will be introducing a new budget-tier version of AirPods Max and also revamp the old, high-end ones with an H2 chip and spec upgrades all around:

  • The budget ones are likely a bit smaller and lighter, have USB-C and a limited selection of upgrades by comparison to the older $549 H1s, but still feature the old H1 chip, coming in at maybe $249-$299.
  • The 2nd Gen. full-size AirPods Max H2 will then get upgraded on every parameter and stay at the same $549 as the 1st Gen. ones.
I mean, if Apple is already splitting the regular AirPods into two models then surely its also doing it for AirPods Max.

All AirPods sell like crazy, even the less popular ones. So there's definitely room to expand the line-up.
