That's not realistic.

For one, that situation is pretty rare. As a Spanish speaker with grandparents that only speak one language, I can count the number of times where this would have been useful in one hand.

Two, this would require playback of two audio channels going to two different audio sources, which in itself isn't impossible. But then you have to turn surround sound into mono sound, negotiate new contracts with content developers aka every studio and most importantly you'd have to get Apple to care about it.

Siri can't even get it right when I request music by Juanes or Enrique Iglesias yet they are going to support that? I'm just saying, don't get your hopes up.
1. There are languages other than English & Spanish, like hundreds of them and it might be rare but why not have the option when we need it?
2. Turning surround sound to mono can be fixed by using 2 AirPods. I guess it's possible with AirPlay 2.
3. The file might not be a movie at all but then again, I think this is negotiable with the studios and they might not even care since you're buying the movie in the first place.
4. What does this feature, if implemented have to do with Siri?

I like the idea so much I'm emailing Apple about it :)

That's awesome! I'm really looking forward to future headlines as Apple continues to increase AirPods' functionality:

Apple's AirPods Pair Whether or Not You Want Them to in tvOS 12

Apple's AirPods Automatically Subscribe to Apple Music in tvOS 13

Apple's AirPods Kidnap Children of Nearby Houses With Protected WiFi and Negotiates for Password in tvOS 14
This is same as iOS automatically connects to the Bluetooth speaker whether you want it or not.

Looking into the future, a really cool feature they could add is multilingual playback. Imagine streaming a movie that's in English. Someone, say a friend, wants to listen in Spanish. They pop in their AirPods and are good to go. No need for distracting substitles.
Fantastic idea!

Does anyone know if you can use multiple pairs of AirPods at the same time? I'd like to be able to listen to the tv with my wife while the kids are sleeping. It currently doesn't support multiple pairs of regular Bluetooth headphones so wondering if AirPods are different.

This should of been rolled out as soon as the airpods were rolled out, or at least soon after. Its clear that Apple doesn't have enough full-time staff devoted to appleTV. A very common problem with Apple.

A small change, but a welcome one.

I think it's a big change. I have a take 3 that I retired when I got my Xbox one. I like the idea of being able to watch tv while the wife reads next to me but most of the wireless headphones for tvs are pretty trashy. If this works well it might be worth the investment.

You might want to clarify your objections. From what I read it sounds like you are saying:
1. I don't want it.
2. Surround sound uses two channels.
3. Only two channels can exist.
4. Each language track has it's own legal contract for streaming.
5. Apple doesn't care about people buying two products instead of one.
6. If siri doesn't understand you then Tim Cook won't either.

There is a tvOS 11? Thought it was Amazon prime app? :)

Quick, Apple! Invent a Universal Translator!

There are countries outside of USA and china for apple? Really? :p

Over the past few months travelling through the London rush hour I have yet to see a single person wearing these. See plenty of the free ones that come with the phone and loads of over ear cans, but none of these. Has anyone in the UK actually bought these? Not having a go at the product, just curious.

I take public transit to work so I see a lot of people. So far I spotted only a couple of guys wearing AirPods, nobody with BeatsX but a lot of folks with other Beats products like Solo or studio. Also a lot of people with standard EarPods.
But we have to say AirPods were difficult to get a the beginning of this year, so I'm not surprised.

I just hope selecting AirPods as output will no longer be buried deep inside tvOS menus.

In fact, if you have multiple devices paired with the AirPods that switch should be placed into the AirPods themselves. Like, "hey Siri, connect AirPods to Apple TV", or something similar.

AirPods just keep getting better. I recently find very few reasons not to purchase them. The biggest flaw now is sound quality. I want the sound quality from Jaybird X3 but I also want the seamlessness of the AirPods. First world problems at its finest.

Is this in the UK?

It's a great idea and easy to do! The movies usually have 2-10 audio tracks already. Playing back the DD 5.1 track over hdmi and at the same time pushing out the 2.0 spanish dub wont be a problem. Or downmixing the 5.1 channel track if the movie have such dubbing.

Absolutely no reason to negotiate new contracts or turning the sound into mono.

This frustrates me to no end. The Switch has every sensor known to man including bloody IR! Why no BT‽‽‽?
You can velcro a bluetooth adapter to the rear of the device, lol. Oh man. Nintendo, I swear sometimes…

We need a BT audio transmitter that is just a little nub on top of an audio jack. Probably by the time that one is ready there will be a Switch XL or Switch U that has it. Yeah, they're not going to name it that, but whatever.
