Each July since 2007, Apple has held its iTunes Festival in London, offering a month's worth of free concerts from some of the industry's top performers. Apple is now beginning to unveil this year's plans, and the most notable change for 2012 is a move to the month of September.

For the fourth consecutive year, the iTunes Festival will be held at The Roundhouse in London, with at least 60 acts performing over the 30 nights of the festival. Five acts have been announced so far: Usher (September 1), Emeli Sandé (September 5), Jack White (September 8), Norah Jones (September 10), and One Direction (September 20).

Free tickets are available through a lottery system to residents of the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and the Netherlands, and Apple will also be streaming live video of the concerts directly through iTunes on the desktop or through a dedicated mobile app. The app appears to currently be limited to customers in the UK, and the company notes on its international site for the festival that it will announce streaming options in other countries in August.

Apple also typically releases a number of live EPs and albums from the shows, available for purchase through the iTunes Store.

Awesome, been to some great gigs courtesy of itunes in the past few years.
Just the lottery of getting tickets. Normally get at-least one of them though.

Well the Roundhouse is near my house, so I'll be applying for sure. I'd rather Jack White than Usher though.

Well, theres certainly One Direction I'll be going- and it wont be to there..

It must be difficult for them to find six acts let alone sixty these days.

Great though, if you don't get bored with singer songwriters, ballads and autotuned "bands" and have cmektley forgotten what music used to be like .... You know ... Individual ... Different ... Expressive ....

Thanks for that Simon Cowell.

Hopefully it's only moving due to the Olympics, I prefer it when it's during the summer. More free time (for me) and it's warmer (though not very :p).

Tim putting off things that Jobs was serious about. I hope he's having fun floating around in all that cash that Jobs worked hard for!:mad::mad:

Not in the UK???

Whoops from Apple, the signup page doesn't have the UK in the list of Regions/Countries, therefore I can't sign up!

Hopefully some better acts announced, won tickets to the Jimmy Eat World/Foo Fighters gig last year, was great! :D

I've had a couple of tickets to iTunes festivals in the past, but noticed in recent years, winning tickets has become near impossible.

The T&C's are a little surprising:

Each Prize shall be comprised of two (2) tickets, which shall be non-transferable, and not for resale, only. 160 Prizes shall be available for each event.

The Roundhouse has around 3000 capacity, iTunes gives away 320 tickets.

If you want it bad enough, you can work around this. I live in the US and downloaded and installed the app.

I had to change to the UK store, make a free account (How to make an account without a credit card -- http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534) and then sync the app to my phone.

You think they might have moved it to make it coincide with a product launch (iPod Touch, nano, etc or the new "iPhone 6" or "iPhone LTE")?

And no, it's not the "iPhone 5" it's the 6th generation phone! There's no reason to call it the "iPhone 5"

The UK is awesome for music, so many different styles of artists. Can't see myself going London to see One Direction though!
