Why are companies like Apple hell bent on AR nonsense? It will never become mainstream and go the way of 3D Blue-Ray and 3D TVs. It might find niche but limited uses though.
Give us some true innovative next level stuff.

Most AR implementations are dumb and gimmicky. Maybe Apple will do to Apple Maps what Google has done to Google Maps with indoor and outdoor AR navigation cues.

Looks like another round of doodly AR effects, hype and custom Twitter icons leading to a could-have-been-an-email scripted self-congratulatory announcement of 1-2 device iterations that are totally indistinguishable from the existing versions.

Yeah, for once Microsoft seem to have got it right in going for the business sector with HoloLens, where it's now being put to good use, especially in manufacturing and medical/research fields. Like you say, in the consumer market once you get past the 'Wow, that's neat' moment, AR's not really found a compelling use yet.

iPad spec bump and AirTags are not enough for an event IMO. Surely there will be more. Praying for Macs.

Mac Rumors: your source for all things incredible boring about Apple logos.

Come on guys, get a flipping grip.

Obviously you have not been here long enough! There is a hidden message in everything that Apple sends out! Now get to deciphering!

I'm hoping for an ATV. But I believe the AR is for AirTags, which will be supported by AR being added to the FindMy app.
hmm that could be fantastic functionality to have for findmy; i do hope the tags also come with a thin style option to fit into a wallet.

ive been using tile for...mostly good experience. but i'm sure apple's implementation will be more refined.

alright all y'all who look at these things and figure out what's happening, please tell me if there will be a new ATV launched

How did you hear about the All Terrain Vehicle? Apple’s been trying super hard to keep that under wraps.

Oh, well, that cat’s out of the bag...

Clearly this is a hint at AR glasses. Will there be a camera? Being able to record and stream without holding up or attaching a camera would be a killer feature.

In typical Apple fashion, this is very slick, but subtly so. It uses the LiDAR — the shape intelligently goes in and out of objects. Super cool. AR is going to end up being pretty big, although in a significant sense, our reality is already highly digitally augmented...

I’m just glad these events are all Virtual now. All the smug entitled “influencers” and C list celebrity bloggers who flaunted their invitations for weeks and then created childish wide eyed videos of “hands on” with the newest device were so unnecessary.

I can't believe some of these comments about AR not being useful, you should be ashamed of yourselves! AR is the future whether you like it or not. Let Apple innovate and push for it. Are you really content with you current iPhone/iPad? Do you not want to see transparent, foldable, device wearing gear in your everyday use?

Cough Linus Meth Tips and PKMKB or whatever he’s called.

Until they release their AR glasses. IMO all current AR is just proof of concept stuff and trying to generate interest.
I’ll believe that when I see it. Personally I can’t think of a use-case compelling enough to get me to wear glasses, and more importantly I have seen nothing, ever, to make me think Apple can make this work seamlessly at a technical level. For AR glasses to be compelling they’ll need to overlay data accurately on the world around you, and if there’s one thing Maps has shown us it’s that Apple are crap at knowing where stuff in the world around you is (and years of working on this has barely improved it).

Well that’s disappointing. However much Apple want it to be, AR just isn’t interesting.
You lack imagination, my friend.

I for one would love a HUD that gives me driving or walking directions overlaid onto the road, the ability to answer calls and see and dismiss notifications with a tap of the air (the lidar sensor registers my hand position), or a giant virtual monitor.

I believe we're on the brink of a revolution in human/computer interfaces.

Until Apple shows us a killer use-case scenario.

I wouldn't underestimate Apple's track record for turning "unnecessary" into must-have.

I can see all kinds of potential for AR glasses.
Steve Jobs could do that indeed. I don't think they have that capability anymore.
