Apple's long-rumored AR/VR headset will enter mass production in October and launch by December, according to investment firm Morgan Stanley. Apple is still expected to unveil the headset at WWDC next week, and provide developers with tools to create apps for the device, which is expected to have its own App Store.

"While we expect Apple's AR/VR headset to be unveiled next week, our supply chain checks suggest mass production won't start until October '23, with general availability most likely ahead of the December holidays," said Erik Woodring, an Apple analyst at Morgan Stanley, in a research note obtained by MacRumors.

Apple's supply chain is preparing to assemble only 300,000 to 500,000 headsets in 2023, according to Woodring. As widely rumored, he believes the headset will have a starting price of around $3,000, and he expects gross margins to be "close to breakeven at first," suggesting that Apple will initially make minimal profits on the device.

Morgan Stanley also reiterated that Apple plans to announce a new MacBook Air at WWDC, but it's unclear if this information is independently sourced or simply corroborating other rumors. Apple's keynote begins on Monday, June 5 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

I forecast the Phoenix (rising) iMac "bigger" will be branded PRO and "starting at only..." $3499, north of $4K nicely configured. Look back to the former iMac Pro as your guide.

As to Goggles, bring 'em on. Finally, FINALLY: an entirely NEW product creation from Apple this is not a slightly bigger or slightly faster rehash of the existing mix. I look forward to seeing whatever it can do and whatever it actually costs. I hope it dazzles... but, unlike seemingly many, reserve all judgement until the vapor is actually revealed so we can see what it actually is, what it can actually do, what it actually costs, etc.

Just a few days before we see all the magic for the first time. Anyone betting against Apple should prepare to lose their money.... AGAIN!
Delusion is strong in this one 😂

It wouldn’t be the first time Apple releases something that flops badly. Famous examples include Newton, Pippin, the HomePod. Whosever bet against these products did NOT lose their money. Failure also occurred with software and services (Ping, mobile me, Apple Arcade). Apple is just a company, and like any other it occasionally fails to deliver. I don’t have a crystal ball so I don’t know what will happen with this VR product. But all available information seem to indicate something marginally better (if at all) to the competition, but with an insane price tag. If that’s the case I can’t see how it wouldn’t fail badly.

I wouldn't count the HomePod out...yet. The HomePod mini saved the product line, to be sure. The HomePod is a great product but was too expensive and still needs to be innovated upon — something that we hear is happening. I, myself, have 3 HomePods, and 4 HomePod minis in my house (one in every room).

It is pretty impressive that this event takes place Monday and we haven't seen a single leak related to what this device actually looks like...yet!

I don't think we got photos of the actual Mac Studio- which has nowhere near the design "complications" of this thing (or even the pre-release interest since it was somewhat of a surprise) until 1-2 days before Apple revealed it. And that was mostly a fattened Mini with 2 slits cut into the front.

Up until only a few days ahead of "big reveal," we thought we were probably getting Mac Mini with PRO & MAX chips, which had been rumored to be ready about 6 months before at the Fall event. Personally, I STILL expected to be buying that Mac Mini MAX and not this last-minute-rumored fat Mini right up until the latter was actually revealed by Apple.

But I agree: given 6+ years of development and hundreds of posts in anticipation, it is impressive that it's been this well hidden right up to a few days ahead of the event. Makes me wonder if there is no Goggles and Apple will reveal the Car instead... or the television... or the warp drive... or the transporter. Only new Memoji for all!!! ;)

Nothing impressive, like the watch...since the product launch for the market will be late 2023 or early 2024....its normal
After this, gen 2 3 etc will be different since the timeline are a lot closer between presentation and the release date

I miss the days when the MacRumors comments section was a place of actual thought and conversation. Now it's just a Twitter'ish hole where people fling flippant, sardonic dead-end comments. It's too easy to type "flop"; instead, give us a thoughtful argument as to the headwinds you think a new product might face. I am over the moon for this upcoming launch and I'd make my case, but it's not clear there's many left here who care... ?

Gonna get a headset eh @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️ with your new macbook and iphone 15 ProMax — you could wait and get a 16 ProMax and lessen the financial damage this fall LOL. — Of course I know you would not do that ha hao_Oo_Oo_O🙃🙃;);)
You forgot to list Apple Watch Ultra. No way! I have to upgrade to the new iPhone this year. I'm already at 97% of battery life. The only way to get back to 100% battery life is to get a brand-new iPhone. This is just unacceptable 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think I'm the only one that still has a PIPPIN :)
