Apple's Asteroid FireWire audio interface for GarageBand

How old is this? I've never heard of it, and don't think that it would ever become real, but if it's something very useful for musicians, I say cool.
It looks pretty cool, but rather bulky/oddly shaped. It would look like a mini or an 
TV, but not nearly the same size. Unless this has optical audio in/out, just go out and buy a FireWire mixer for (I'm guessing) $300 less.
