In June, Apple launched its annual Back to School promotion in the U.S. for college students. This year's promotion offers students a free Apple gift card with the purchase of an eligible Mac or iPad from Apple, along with 20% off AppleCare+ plans.

In the U.S. and Canada, the promotion ends on October 2, so time is running out to take advantage of the offer if you are a student. In the U.K. and select other European countries, the promotion ends a few weeks later, on October 23.

In the U.S., Apple is offering the following:
  • $150 Apple gift card with any new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac
  • $100 Apple gift card with any new iPad Pro, iPad Air, or Mac mini
The gift card can be used towards purchases of Apple products and accessories, App Store apps, subscriptions to services like Apple Music, iCloud+ storage, and more.

The offer is available through Apple's online education store and at Apple Store locations for students attending or accepted to a higher-education institution, faculty and staff of higher-education institutions, parents purchasing on behalf of an eligible student, employees of a K-12 institution, and select others.

I tried to go into the Apple Store and get this discount but they wouldn't accept my cirriculum from the School of Hard Knocks! All the Apple Store Manager said was," Yeah? You're from the School of Hard Knocks?" and without warning put me into a triangle choke. When I awoke on the floor, he just commanded that I didn't pass the test and to get my "pathetic soft ass" off his floor. I collected myself and crawled out of the store in a puddle of my own sweat and tears.

I signed up for Jiu Jitsu classes so I qualify next year.

Expect the refreshed iPads following the end of this promo
ooooh.... good point. I think they've done this in the past.

Any wagers on the refresh? Imma guess Air & Mini, as those are kinda due and there are some features missing.

Pros next year, and basic iPad next fall as I think that one is still very well equipped for it's place. (it has the best keyboard IMHO)

Hi dad

This is nothing compared to the types of "education" discounts Apple and other computer makers offered back in the 1980s and 90s. Of course, computers (including Apple) were more often discounted in the non-education market then too.

Small suggestion that I was surprised was an option: If you take advantage of this discount in person, the Apple employee can use the gift card to apply to Applecare+. If that's something you were planning to get anyway, you can take advantage of both the education discount on Applecare+ AND use the gift card toward it. I got a 15" MacBook Air and I think the Applecare+ ended up being like $30.
