Only an idiot would buy something like this. There is no benefit whatsoever to this nonsense of a fantasy market. I mean honestly. What is the point? You can’t sleep? Get a proper diet and exercise regiment.
I just don’t understand the push for this stuff. I truly don’t. I hope I never do. It sounds so pointless and absurd to me.
I understand your cynicism; there are so many psuedo-scientific devices and "solutions" for everything these days; it's disheartening to see how gullible people can be. However... I can't sleep. My brain won't shut down. I fall asleep, jerk awake, and lie in bed for hours. I've tried everything: I eat well, exercise regularly, limit caffeine, etc., and I've taken every combination of medicine recommended by doctors. I've read countless articles and books. Nothing helps. Should it prove to be a useful sleep monitoring device, I will buy anything like this that will help the sleep doctors monitor and determine possible causes and/or solutions. Hopefully, as technology like this improves, it will help folks like me live better lives.

Read that sleep tracking worsens sleep.

It only worsens if you stress about it. I have a Garmin watch (the Vívoactive HR) and I'll look at the sleep data in the app and go "Oh, I guess I need to get some more sleep tonight," or something like that. Sleep tracking alone doesn't worsen sleep, but getting all stressed about it does.

Why cant Apple just improve the battery of the watch so it tracks sleep like Fitbit do

I think the answer is, it is complicated. Apple Watch screen is significantly better (brighter and clearer) and the processing power is significantly amore than the fit bit, not to mention cell service. I’m sure they are working on something though, no doubt bedding tech is going to the Apple Watch someday.

Maybe all these stupid alerts and excess monitoring are causing anxiety and sleep deprivation?

Poor sleep and disrupted circadian rhythm is correlated with many health issues like Alzheimer's. Which 6 million Americans currently suffer from. One in five aged between 85 to 89 in UK get dementia. Much research into this currently. Anything that can be understood and might help by the time I get that old I'm in favour of!

I have a Beddit and it helped me diagnose a chronic sleep issue, as well as helped me identify the cause. To the OP about exercise…turns out exercise was actually, in part, causing my sleep problems. So was drinking water after 10 PM.

Health trackers are good if you know how to use them. I find Beddit extremely helpful. And believe it or not, grasshopper, you won’t be in your 20’s or 30’s forever. Things change.

If you think about it, before health tracking systems like this became available for consumers the only way to get diagnose sleep problems was to spend at least a few nights in a hospital setting.

I've been really curious why Apple acquired this company. The Beddit hardware is destined to be made obsolete by an Apple Watch with a longer battery life that allows it to be worn during sleep and the software analysis isn't all that great when compared to other companies like Withings.

...

My bet: Apple collects a couple of years of data, builds sleep tracking into the Watch and then kills Beddit. It'll have served its purpose.

I used to own a fitbit for sleep tracking, but I cannot wear "jewelry" and sleep comfortably. An Apple watch while sleeping is a non-starter. I now own a beddit, and can track my sleep patters w/o having to wear anything uncomfortable. With this device, I can now directly see how my daily habits affect my sleep.
