Is there a way to tell whether apps in the app store will be free/discounted? That's right, am some cheapskate in Uganda piggybackriding on an international holiday.

Thanks for the explanation of the name. I didn't realise that it was a general thing in the US; I thought it was just an Apple thing as that's the only time I've come across it.

Here in the UK we had "Black Wednesday" back in the '90s when there was a major economic crisis, hence why it sounds negative to me.

these aren't discounts.... but I guess something is better than nothing.

sorry arn & Co. ,

and the rest of MacRumors, we (some of us?), as south africans had a major black tuesday where our press freedom got clamped down (in theory, and possibly, soon in law) to "protect" our corrupt ANC (african national congress) government from being exposed to/of public allowance and access of information

you people out there, watch out...

propagate freedom, expression of, and being free... be fair and just, and public

enjoy black friday sales!

I saw $50 off all iPad models at Staples Canada.

let's get back on track....

---------- thanks!

What are you talking about? What does TF stand for? You're the one who needs to explain stuff

the ****

How come...

other countries that don't celebrate Thanksgiving (US only holiday) get the benefit of Black Friday sales?

Logically, Apple could give deeper discounts to US residents only, rather than spreading the wealth internationally when other countries don't really deserve a sale as they don't have a holiday - Thursday is business as usual and so no sales needed...

Doesn't seem very fair to me especially as Australia is in a boom time economically and the US, well...

Ehh. Right.

What I particularly like about Apple's marketing of this Black Friday "sale" is the remarkably modest "It's the day you've been waiting 364 days for" slogan.

Now, if you'll pardon me, I have to go clean up all this vomit that's expurgated itself from my upper, and indeed lower intestine.

Clearly you haven't been watching much television recently, as regards the global economic downturn. Global. That word again, is global.

Also regarding the use of the word "sale", in your point. It's somewhat embarrassing to even consider this a sale in the UK, when I could walk several doors down to John Lewis, buy it a for a tenner more and get a 2 year warranty as standard. Alternatively, buying AppleCare + would cost me more than the discounted amount in the first place.

It's not so much a sale, as an insult to your intelligence, or lack thereof.

Not too happy BTO upgrades aren't discounted either.
Education store it is then. BF doesn't even come close.

Do you even know the state of Australia? They'd be bankrupt right now without the mining industry. Unemployment, floods, fires, their agricultural sector is a mess. (And I know that because our tomatoes are up 400% from last year :p )

What do you mean it's not fair? We eat turkey and I'm sure the Aussies do too. I bet that's all many Americans see thanksgiving for nowadays; shopping and getting fat. ./smirk

What about the educational discount? Will it stack with the black friday sales?

Nope.

I sense a wind up.

Dick Smith have the AppleTv at no special price but with a free HDMI cable (which they say is worth $49) which is quite good if you need a cable (even if it's only really worth $20).

PS this is an Australian

I clicked on the picture on the article thinking that it was US, but became confused when it said that a 64GB iPod touch was on sale for $400! I realized it was Australian when I saw the AU in the URL, silly me. Anyone know when the US sales will go up?

Dicksmith here was offering a free AppleTV, Office and Applecare for roughly $200 over the standard RRP of a 13" MBP..

Will take a while. I think it's around 4-5am your local time.

1. Australia Unemployment rate currently 5.2% (and unemployment benefits never expire)
2. Australian dollar is the strongest it's been this year against all other currencies, than it has in the previous 27 years (when it was floated)
3. "sale" is the word used when referring to Black Friday sales.

Seeya!

I'm guessing this Friday.

On Christmas Day Turkey is usually eaten, then there's retail sales on the 26th, also known as Boxing Day (historically, left over food was boxed and given to the needy). Thanksgiving is not applicable outside the US (excepting expats).

Well for those of us who don't racially discriminate (And no weird stares at the Aussies for being the worst in my experience ) and mingle with the Americans here... we join the party too :)

My, those are interesting facts about Australia, do they print those on cans of Fosters?
