There has been numerous posts of Reddit from people who have had this modem not been able to pick up 5G in their home with partners getting 5G no problem with older iPhones with older modems , especially inside buildings, maybe more power efficient but not as good older Qualcomm modems

I don’t have an iPhone air but part of me wants this to end up being another “antenna-gate” type thing. Anything to wake Apple up. Lately, their products just seem to fall flat with very tiny incremental updates and kinda jank (iOS/siri issues) and just mid out of the gate. Just nothing exciting and nothing that doesn’t have a bunch of issues.
That is a really bad attitude (read: warped skew) to have, in my opinion. Wishing failure for fellow consumers to wake up Apple (whatever that means) will not result in Apple releasing more products and software that you like and want to use without delays or problems. What you are complaining abut is the inherent nature of the manufacturing / product beast. If you want to effectuate change, it must come from you, regardless of what others may do.

One device failure (and just hearsay at that) merits a full length article? Come on MR, do better.

If it’s a regular occurrence give it the attention it deserves - such as the 2011 iMac graphics card debacle (I’m still bitter over it as I missed the repair cutoff and was left with a boat anchor).

Sounds like the unit might be defective. A byproduct of mass manufacturing, which is unavoidable.

I hope MacRumors will continue to report on ALL defective modems in the wild to get a clearer picture on how often the Samsung Galaxy A06 and A16 have these kind of issues too /s 😆

Really? Because of one single reported failure? Also the C1X isn't quite first gen (though I agree it's close)... it's an evolution of the C1 that was released earlier in the year.

The real question is how often his happens in general, regardless of it being an Intel modem, Qualcomm, or this new C line.
Agreed. This is a nothing burger. One reported field failure over total C1X production is an enviable failure rate.

Actually looking at the thread there was no mention of the modem itself either in the description or the screenshots, not sure why that is getting picked up besides it being mentioned in the title of the post. Based on the screenshots they still have wifi so the chip itself is not completely dead either, could just be the logic board or some other part it relies on for cellular.

You’re absolutely right. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of bed today. I just want something to be excited about from Apple. I understand not every product they release is going to have a “wow!” factor but it seems there are more issues plaguing Apple than things to look forward to. Even the things I’ve been excited about have been either delayed, canceled or released partially and with a lot of issues. Siri and the Apple vision are things that come immediately to mind. Beyond that, I find that each iPhone I get ends up having more weird bugs and issues than the last.

Not sure this is newsworthy…. Think about how many millions of units sold, and you are reporting on one with suspected HW failure…. If they used a Qualcomm modem the same thing would have happened. A certain percentage of ALL devices whether they are new tech or proven are going to have failures…. Phone, car, whatever.

Isn't the N1 chip for WIFI and BT and the C1X is for cellular? They're not in the same chip.

I will agree with you in regards to Apple being under more scrutiny lately, not to mention sued at the drop of it hat (as it were). Unfortunately, that is the ugly world we now live in and I really don’t see that part getting better. It is going to get worse.

I believe we will see exciting products soon but, we just can’t forget that forum aspirations usually exceed moment placed reality. I think the surprises will not be as plentiful as before. That is the same for any company.

It's not specific to this. I stick by what I said; ignore first-gen tech. Simple.

Do whatever you want, of course, but I prefer to let the early-adopters deal with the issues.
I’ve never had problems with first gen Apple products. 1998 I got the rev A bondi blue iMac. Never had issues. In 2006 I got the first gen intel iMac. No issues. I got the first gen apple silicon iMac. No issues. I got the first gen iPhone in 2007. No issues. And so on and so forth

Never ever buy the first iteration of an Apple product, unless you like gambling.
Don't even trust major redesigns. iPhones 4, 6, 7 and X all had specific huge issues that were corrected with their S models.
To those who say "Apple stopped innovating" or "Apple gets new feature after Android phones", some of us don't like buying $1200 experiments.
