Apple has essentially discontinued Clips, its video-editing app designed to allow users to combine video clips, images, and photos with voice-based titles, music, filters, and graphics to create enhanced videos that can be shared on social media sites.

The app has been removed from the App Store, and a support document on Apple's site says that the app is no longer being updated and would no longer be available for download for new users as of yesterday.

Existing users who already have the app installed can continue to use it for now, and it can be redownloaded through your Apple account in the App Store, but new users are now unable to obtain the app.

Apple's support document also outlines how users can save Clips videos and individual clips to their photo library or other locations.

Clips was released in 2017 and was updated a number of times in its early years with features like Memoji and Animoji support, LiDAR Scanner support to generate immersive AR spaces, various filter and graphics options, and more, but over the past few years it hasn't received much more than an occasional bug-fix update.

I was kind of shocked to see this come preinstalled with a fresh iOS on my Air, and was wondering when it would be discontinued.

Weird, I've haven't heard of it. This is why I"m reluctant to use Apple Journal. Imagine them discontinuing it and hundreds of Journals are in there.
Completely different applications.
Apple wouldn’t just erase all of your journal entries, they would give plenty of warning.
This app on the other hand, still works if you have it installed, and also is just a basic video editor.

I’d missed the immersive AR spaces feature before. That’s actually pretty cool. I found more about it on Apple’s Newsroom site, along with a mention of new monthly content coming. Womp womp.

I’m surprised they didn’t announce that it was going to be better integrated with iMovie or something.

So what was the point of redesigning it?View attachment 2566679
I wonder if iOS app icons are separately layered so they can more dynamically update for light for dark mode. If that’s the case perhaps all the edge effects are just shiny post-processing on each layer?

I did find it surprising that all my 3rd party apps seem to fit the new iOS 26 aesthetic immediately after updating. Perhaps that’s why?

Music Memos even still works and that’s been unsupported for a loooong time.
