Law suits aren't very practical when your talking about $1,000 worth of goods - we have something called the Small Claims Court in the UK which can sometimes help in this kind of case but it's still not cheap and only a last resort.
A better approach in the UK would be to contact your local Trading Standards Officer who may be willing to intervene on your behalf in you're not satisfied by the remedial actions taken by the reseller.
