Earlier this week, it was reported that one aspect of Apple's rumored retail store revamp reportedly set to launch this weekend was the deployment of new iPad 2s equipped with an updated version of the company's RetailMe training and information software for store employees.

9 to 5 Mac has gotten access to the new software, obtaining screenshots of Apple's new "Daily Download" iPad newspaper for store employees. The app offers insight into a number of store functionalities, including previews of upcoming store changes such as a revamped Concierge system for scheduling customer appointments set to roll out this weekend. Individual subpages within the app break down information into Red Zone (sales floor), Family Room (support and training), People, and Business.

The new iPads are also said to include the RetailMe staff training software, Apple Connect internal communications software, Apple Directory internal contact information, Concierge, EasyPay customer payment software, and Mobile Genius and iRepair support information.

According to the report, Apple retail employees are also speculating that the rumored "gigabytes" of data set to be downloaded to the stores tomorrow may be Mac OS X Lion, based on a belief that all new software and training materials are already accounted for. There does not, however, appear to be any specific evidence of Lion coming this weekend, and it would be very strange for Apple to install unreleased operating system software on public-facing machines in its stores as the speculation suggests.

The quintesenntial 21st-century store gets 21st-century software for the employees. Very slick.

So exciting for apple employees. Hope I nail the group interview thing on Sunday.

Good news for store employees! I know It can't be easy working for Apple but at least is has some benefits..

What benefit are you talking about. It isn't like these are being given to people to keep. It's all in store.

Also, the stories are implying that all these apps are new. They are not. According to my sources only the RetailMe one is new and it was deemed needed because they have mandatory training, email etc they have to do every day and not enough computers by even half.

All the other apps are old news and have been used on ipads for months.

Oh and there is zero plan to use ipads for ringing sales.

As for the tons of data. It is very possibly just a change out of the demo content for the computers on the floor. Or it could be advance training for the Cloud thing and maybe some already released Lion features so that the staff won't look like morons after WWDC etc. Or even a combo.

RetailMe has been around forever on Apple internal's sites.

There's nothing new about any of these systems other than they are now on an iPad and not internal sites or paper.

and i don't understand why this is noteworthy? how does it help the average user? apple was already pretty efficient when it came to POS in the store...

Did the group seminar, passed.
Did phone interview, passed.
Store interview...fail.

These jobs are incredibly hard to get....as if you are applying for corporate.

Which is surprising since the majority of the people they hire are idiots.

I've always been fortunate enough to have quality people help me out and the experience has always been positive. As far as the "look" of the employees, they always seem to have a gimmick. There are not too many "normal" looking people working at the few stores I've been too. They all have a "gimmick" that I would think is their selling point on getting the job.

The cool jobs always are for retail. In high school I worked at a record store. Remember those? I had to take a lie detector test. The real deal! Little things around your fingers, a band around your chest, everything.

I know someone working in soho and someone in 5th ave. No gimmicks. Very clean cut. One 40, one twenty something. Both just extremely well spoken, nice, intelligent people you'd want facing tour customers.

who cares!
does every single thing Apple does have to be reported and come under scrutiny?
tired of this mundaneness!

As long as you keep coming back it's more hits to sell more advertising. I'd rather have something rather than nothing. I come here to get the apple news. I find all the intricacies very interesting. Don't read em if tgey appear boring.

They are competing from the same talent pool as McDonald's and Payless Shoes. So obviously Apple is the (slightly) better option, thus more competition.

Right. Since every single employee at an Apple retail store is a high school dropout with no experience in graphic design, training, or IT deployment.

Man. I feel seriously depressed for anyone who has to work at an Apple store.

Funny stuff above. Why someone would want to work in an Apple store is beyond me. Unless you were in high school or college and it was just for spending bucks.

I'm guessing..... they don't pay worth a crap and treat you even worse.

the sales people on the floor are sometimes idiots but for my local apple store they are always pretty helpful, i always know what im getting when i go in there so i cant attest to that part of there job. usually if i have a problem with anything they always have the solution, the geniuses are always smart and they should be. uh and alto of the people working im my apple store have had some sort of computer related position (i always say im guna apply for a job and they always say there job at the store is better than there other one). but as for the new things happening to the stores that is good, the data downloaded is probably nothing special but who knows?

Then you're a terrible guesser.

On the 9to5mac article:

"Apple’s lawyers called and told us to take down the screenshots.".

And they might be coming after MacRumors too if the images are still on the website.
