Apple's dual-dvi adapter without straight connection to mac?

Hi,
anybody tested this?

I have older (but excellent) 2560x1600 eizo, that needs dual-dvi.
I'm wondering if I could use it with two computers that output dp to a dp switch and Apple's adapter is between the switch and the monitor?

Is Apple's adapter "standalone", ie. works with just power from usb?

Once again "apple surprise"!
Everything seems to be okay, but the picture behind dongle (eizo SX3031W) is blank...
Ideas?
Would netkas's discussions be the best place to ask this?

....and problem solved!
Somehow nvidia's webdrivers were dropped off.
Installing them again with PW ( https://github.com/mayankk2308/purge-wrangler ) and now I can order 5500 and use my apple-adapter.

Now just to find a nice cheap mechanical dp switch, so I can check easily what's happening in old mini2012...
