Apple's Extended Return Policy Now in Effect for 2024 Holiday Season

Apple today indicated that its extended return policy is now in effect for the 2024 holiday shopping season. The policy applies to most products that Apple sells, but there are a few exceptions, including carrier-financed iPhones.

In the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, and many other countries, most products purchased between November 8 and December 25 of this year may be returned through January 8, 2025, according to Apple's website. All purchases made after December 25 in those countries are subject to Apple's standard 14-day return policy.

If you placed an order through Apple's online store, the extended return policy applies to eligible products that you receive between November 8 and December 25 too. That means anyone who pre-ordered a new Mac mini, iMac, or MacBook Pro has until January 8 to return those computers, if they choose to.

In some countries, such as Italy, Spain, Japan, and Mexico, the return window is slightly longer. Apple says most products purchased in those countries between November 8 and January 6 may be returned through January 20.

Apple has also updated its online "Store" page with gift recommendations for the holidays.

Awesome! My 16" MBP that is with UPS is also covered by this. So that's great news I can get an extended period to test the device and decide if I need to swap to Nano or not. Or if I feel it isn't a good upgrade from my 2018 Intel MBP.

Amazon and Target have very similar windows. Apple never discounts their products, so I don’t see the point in buying directly from them unless you’re buying a custom Mac.

Would love to know - don't see any specific exceptions in Apple's Holiday Return Policy docs, but when purchasing a MacBook Pro I see a "Free extended holiday returns until January 8" promo on the product page, while I don't see the same promo on the Vision Pro page.

Anyone checked with Apple to confirm?

Um, when they offer gift cards and I get to make a purchase from their Edu store which includes a nice discount.

Apple does have their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Apple gives you a gift card instead of discounting the product itself which for some people isn't as good as a straight discount as you're forced to spend the gift card with Apple, or sell the gift card at a discount. Last year it was get up to $200 in Apple gift card for select purchases. Same gift card offer in 2022, 2021, etc.

That’s good if you intend to buy something else from Apple with the gift card, but with cash discounts I can use the savings for whatever I want.

And look at the gift cards they offered last year. $200 gift card when buying a 16 inch M2 MBP. The deal this year will likely be the same but for an M3 MBP. So with the EDU discount, that’s a $300 discount. But if you go on Best Buy’s website, they have 16 inch M3 MBPs for $500 off. Which is $200 more.

Same with AirPods. The gift cards they offered last year were less in value than the sales occurring right now. They offered $50 for AirPods Pro, but Amazon had them $80 off right now.
