Apple's original film "F1: The Movie" has surpassed $500 million in global box office revenue, becoming the company's highest-grossing theatrical release to date and marking a significant milestone for Apple TV+.

The film reached $509 million in ticket sales as of the final weekend in July, according to Comscore data reported by CNBC. F1 eclipses the previous record held by "Napoleon," Ridley Scott's 2023 historical epic, which grossed $221 million worldwide.

The film also significantly outperformed other Apple theatrical projects including "Killers of the Flower Moon" ($158 million), "Argylle" ($96 million), and "Fly Me to the Moon" ($42 million). F1's box office performance positions Apple to recoup its full investment through theatrical receipts alone.

The film crossed the $400 million threshold in mid-July. F1 was released in over 80 countries and reportedly maintained strong attendance during weekday screenings. With $509 million in earnings, F1 surpasses "Superman" at $502 million to become one of the most popular films of the summer.

After its theatrical run, F1: The Movie is expected to come to Apple TV+ later this year. Apple is also believed to have put in a winning bid to stream Formula 1 itself.

The budget is between $200-$300 and the general rule of thumb is to double that to calculate the marketing, so it’s probably not made a profit yet.

Ahh .. I stand corrected.
Thank you.

Looks like it’s heading for profitability at some point at least.

One of my favourite movies, watched it twice in theatres, going again. With a proven recipe of big star + innovative cinematography, Apple could do a repeat with a Cole Trickle "Days of Thunder" crossover. Tom Cruise + Brad Pitt and cameras in places where they were impossible until now could top what they've achieved with F1.

I’ve not heard good things; just another Pitt foray for cash. Can someone confirm/deny?

You should watch the movie for yourself, because you're missing out due to whoever told you that. The box-office numbers speak for themselves. People are watching multiple times.

Besides the eye popping cinematography, F1 has an excellent script and story pacing, and all the actors were perfectly cast for their roles. Formula One and its drivers were not only on board, they collaborated to ensure realism and gave Apple unprecedented access. They had their own real pit on real tracks and filmed during warmups before real Formula One races amongst real F1 drivers. If you haven't watched this on IMAX, you're missing out.

Why??! It was DULL!!!
people enjoy visual masturbation, and apple excels at these. heck, even I only go to theaters for movies with great imagery, otherwise I just stream from home .

avatar is the first movie that made me go to theaters I believe, even though I hated the story and found it profoundly shallow and dumb as hell

makes me afraid for the next vince giligan's series on apple TV though, I feel apple will force this contemplative dimension, which would ruin the show for me. there's no way im spending days watching a series whose content has been streched thin . I loved foundation and silo/wool books , but I can't watch them

box office numbers speak for nothing . you know how much crap gets tremendous success in box office ?

I liked it, but it felt a solid 30 minutes too long to me. And story wise... it was rather dull. Especially compared to 'Gran Turismo' just 2 years ago. Regardless, it was a visual FEAST.

With that said, if the reported $200m production budget is accurate then the film is officially churning a profit now; so congrats to Apple for finally having a box office hit on their hands!

Story was so-so at best; cinematography and sound were incredible. I went in expecting a pretty, but garbage, movie. Expectations were met and I enjoyed myself. I left fulfilled even as a pre-DTS F1 fan.
