So which is it? Is Cook and Ive's control over the design process dictatorial as everyone here always complains about "thinness" or is it a committee designing these things?
It's what ever it needs to be to fit someone's narrative. This whole article reads like a hit piece. Why else would people allegedly under NDA give quotes to Reuters?

If you figure out the imperial system and learn it quickly with no errors
I'll switch to metric

You can't just switch systems at the snap of fingers, I've been using Celsius for months (coming from F) and I still don't understand it (I know the formula, but I can't say it's 20C so it's kinda hot outside)
If you're in the US you don't use the imperial "system", you use US customary units (which are themselves defined by metric units).

If you actually want to learn the thing you should stop using formulas. Don't do conversions, just use the thing.

You're right about that, I got that wrong

and I have to do conversions, because I'm clueless on what the actual temperature is, 20C means nothing to me
Plus everyone I'm surrounded by doesn't understand it

The metric system is far more logical and intuitive than the Imperial system. If we were starting from scratch no doubt it would be the right system to standardize on.

But unfortunately we live in a world where the Imperial (and related) systems dominate in various areas, so there is a lot of resistance (financial and psychological) to switching from whatever system is already established.

As always, after the pain staking detail and money that goes into being original, and enduring hate from jealous upholders of mediocrity, said wannabes soon follow suit with their copycat, I mean 'ideas' inspired by Apple.

Apple has "borrowed" plenty of ideas from others. There are smart people working in other companies also.

Same thing at my house. I want a six foot iron gate between my separated garage and house. No less than five fence/gate companies have tried to sell me on something else. No, I do not want the crap left over in your garage. I want exactly what I showed you in the picture, from that manufacture. I do not care if it costs $30 more.

Do not get me started on windows ( the house kind, the software kind is an entirely different rant ).

Hahaha in my state the law changed a few years ago to not allow windows to be close to ground floor and or be overly large so that children don't fall out of them... people watch your kids it's that simple

So this architect is saying that we owe the fact that our doors are opening and closing to manufacturing tolerances?
And I have spent 43 years on this planet thinking the cracks between doors and their frames were done intentionally...

0º water freezes as ice, 10º is cold, 20º is Spring nice, 30º is hot, 40º is Sahara hot, 100º water boils

Some nice features of the metric system, 1 kilogram of water is exactly 1 liter of water and that takes a 1 cubic decimeter (0,1 meters). As a lot of fluids are almost 100% water this is pretty useful.

Oh, I'm sure they are quite pleased with what they already have. Like this one in San Jose:

That's how I read it as well.

I charge my Magic Mouse overnight. Lasts around a month. Job done

...and if you forget to charge it, and it runs out just as you start to work, wouldn't it be better if you could just plug it in and go on using it while it got a full charge? Would there be any penalty for that extra functionality?

We're talking about attention to detail here - that's not the same thing as fitness for purpose. There's plenty of cheaper kit that's fit for purpose.

The glass house comment was about your "Gotta love intelligent debate" comment when you include an erudite gem like this in your other quote: "... said wannabes soon follow suit with their copycat, I mean 'ideas' inspired by Apple."

The stylus and the mouse: The time to charge is immaterial to the topic of attention to detail. Both charging ports are inelegant and contrary to Apple's typical design aesthetic. Alternative solutions? Wireless charging similar to the Apple Watch and a port where the mouse's "tail" would be.

Its nice that it works for you.
Know how many cables and dongles I'd need? About $300 worth.
I've counted.
Carefully.
Done the research.
Or, I could settle for an "upgrade" that is less convenient than what I already have.

Yes, the Magic Mouse can go for weeks without recharging. Or, if it runs down while you're busy you can give it a day's charge in about a minute & then get on with work. Pick one.

Mice from other manufacturers can be used while they're on charge, so you can get on with your work and give them a full charge that will then keep them wire-free for weeks.

Does this make the Magic Mouse unusable? No. Does it show attention to detail? No - it shows that Apple put the minimum effort into adapting the old AA-cell-powered design into a rechargeable.
Well, if Apple's design is such that they don't see it being a good experience to use a wireless device being used with a wire then making the charging experience such that it prevents that type of use which isn't seen as desirable is in fact quite a bit of attention to detail.
